Hi all =] My friend told me the other day that this can increase the risk of cot death, is this true??? Basically i know a lot of people buy moses baskets etc for their newborns, though i have quite a large dog and am worried she could possibly knock a moses basket and the stand over (im not planning on allowing the dog to sleep in same room as baby, however baby is sharing the same room as me and there will be times my dog will be in the bedroom too, supervised of course, however i just dont think it would be safe to have a moses basket.) Anyway, i really wanted to get a cot but now i feel slightly put off by what my friend said. I wanted to get one with two levels, if that makes any difference??? (By two levels i mean its adjustable; like when a baby is newborn the cot is more raised where the mattress bit is, so its easier to lift baby out etc). I just want to make the right choice, im an anxious person anyway and this is my first baby, i just want everything to go Ok, i worry i could make the slightest little mistake which could have devastating consequences =[ im already scared because im due to give birth in the middle of August and im scared that it will be BAKING hot and i dont know how a newborn would cope with this, i have bought a room thermometer etc but still, there are so many worries to think about... Im a non smoker, i dont drink alcohol and not planning on sharing bed with baby; i have heard these are also risk factors for cot death... What do you guys think about the cot situation?

I am getting a queen size memory foam mattress, with the box-spring/platform delivered. I have a bed frame that worked for our full sized mattress, and it is adjustable, so I just fixed it to accommodate queen size. It is basically a square...support along the outer perimeter of the mattress, but nothing in the middle. Do I need to put in some slats across that open space? Will the platform/box-spring support the mattress- or will that sag in the middle over time? It worked fine for a full, but since there will be more "unsupported" space with the queen, will that lack of bars/slats affect the structure of set?

I just bought a queen size mattress and frame from Craig's list. It is a pretty standard basic metal frame. My main problem with it, is that the mattress hangs off the end of the frame about 6 inches. I have looked online at similar frames, and many are advertised to fit full AND queen mattresses. I am not sure how this works as queen beds are longer. It fits width wise though, as that is adjustable.

I have a dual-sided adjustable air mattress. The pump that supplies it has two male O connectors, one for each hose on both sides of my bed.
One of the little Os just snapped clean off, leaving me with a half-inch plastic piece of what now looks like penne (as in baked ziti noodles, round and hollow) and In can no longer connect the hose to the pump! the perfect fix (in my opinion) would be a dual-sided rubber male-male connector, so I could slide one end into the pump, then one end into the mattress hose, but I can find nothing but hard plastic and hose clamp types. I REALLY don't want to shell out 200 usd+ for a new pump, can someone help me?Sunnieangel- I can't use a clamp-style connector because I have nothing to clamp to (I snapped off the only part I could clamp) I need something that would fit -inside- the tubing/pump
Hammerdown- I had the same idea, my only concern is that the inside of the connector won't allow adequate airflow, I'll check there in the morning.

Should I go ahead and buy another one like this for my second baby, and just convert the Emily crib I have now into a toddler bed? And when exactly can a baby start sleeping in a toddler bed? I am hoping that as my baby gets older, she might want to snuggle with us in bed and sleep with us. She has definitely not been a cuddly type at all, she hates being hold in bed, it seems as if she thinks she's being held within her will and constrained!
Well, anyway, should I just buy a regular toddler bed for the older baby, or should I just get another crib that converts? What did you do?

Not sure if that is what they are called, but my mother-in-law mentioned they used to use them when her kids were small. It was two pieces, I believe; an adustable strap that you could wrap around any mattress, and an adjustable strap that fit like a belt around the child. The child's belt strap attached to the bed strap to a stationary ring, I think. This allowed the child to flip, flop, roll, & whatever, and not fall off the edge of the bed. Anyway, sounded like a great idea, especially since my little one just outgrew her travelyard. I've searched the web, but can't find anything like it. Anyone heard of this? Thanks.

Okay, I bought a used (but in perfect condition) Tempurpedic adjustable base, that raises at the head and feet and also has massage action! Got a great deal!!
But, for the mattress, I bought an inexpensive memory foam off eBay (new from Sleepy Mountain Mattress). It was great for about the first 6 months! But, now, almost two years later... we hate it! The mattress has a giant sink hole in the middle and is really uncomfortable for two people trying to sleep together!
So, I'm looking for suggestions on a new mattress that is really firm, yet comfortable... AND... that will work with the adjustable action of our base?
Would especially love to hear from those of you who have owned your Tempurpedic (EXPENSIVE!) mattress for at least 3-5 years. They're supposed to have a 20 year warranty. (Well, so does the Sleepy Mountain Mattress we bought... but once you read the fine print, and figure out the way they pro-rate the warranty after the first 12 months, and factor in the difficulty in re-packaging and cost of shipping... well it would be cheaper to give it away!)

So I have an adjustable bed frame and no matter how tight I tighten the screws, the bed continually falls through on one side. I hope you guys understand what I'm saying. it's like the frame expands and if the bed is wiggled even a centimeter, one of the edges falls off the track and I'm left with a slope to sleep on instead of a nice level bed.

I've been looking for crib for quite a while now. I don't want to spend a fortune, but I want a good sturdy one. I found this crib that I absolutely love. It is cute, sturdy and unique all in one! They only thing I'm having trouble deciding on is that is does NOT have a drop side railing....My mom and friends say that I will really want one that had a drop side to it. This crib is only about 3 feet tall and has 4 adjustable mattress heights, so I won't really have to be bending over too far anyway. I think Im going to get it anyway and take it back if it doesn't work out(I'll test it with my friends toddler!) But I would like some opinions from people who have tried either or!
