Bed Foam Memory Topper Questions and Answers
Resolved Question: *Can I sleep on my new mattress topper tonight?*?
I bought a 4" Spa Sensations Memory Foam mattress topper and it arrived this morning. It came tightly compressed to about 1 1/2 ". I've been letting it air out on a flat surface in my bed room with fans and fresh air all day/evening. I expected a strong chemical smell, but there was very little and it's completely gone now. I really need to sleep on it tonight and besides, I have no where else I can put it. However, the instructions say to let it sit for up to 48 hours so it can fully expand. I just measured it and it's almost at 4" now. Has anyone else bought one and slept on it the first night? I'm not going to like ruin it or anything by sleeping on it, am I? moreVoting Question: Is memory foam safe? And how do I get rid of that horrible smell!?
Hello, It's not a memory foam mattress, but a topper and it smells awful! It goes through to my pillow and duvet. Anything that I put on my bed smells so I have to sleep in my sister's bed. I've aired the foam out twice, washed its cover, washed all my sheets and pillow cases, but it still smells just as awful. I can't wash the foam, but I was wondering if there's any way to neutralise the smell? Also, is memory foam safe? Thanks! moreResolved Question: what memory foam mattress topper does not warm hot flash sufferers ?
I have bad hot flashes , and want to buy a memory foam topper for my queen size bed, but am afraid it will hold my body heat and make me too warm. No, I am not wanting one for back pain. I am wanting one for added padding. But I am worried it will be too hot to sleep on. moreResolved Question: Memory Foam Mattress or Topper?
I need your help please! I live in a shared house with my landlady. Now, my current double bed and mattress belongs to my landlady. The spring mattress is absolute rubbish and has been giving me back-ache, however as I don't own a bed I'm hesitant to buy a mattress (plus, they're so expensive). I mean, what if I move out, and end up with a bed that's bigger (or smaller) than my landlady's bed? So as an alternative, I was thinking of buying a topper. I've never used a topper before, so wasn't sure if it would work...... I've heard a lot of good things about memory foam, so was thinking of buying a 3inch memory foam mattress topper to go on top of the current crap mattress as a) it's cheaper, and b)won't be as problematic when I eventually get my own place and buy my own bed. Do you think it would work and help the bed be more comfy? Or do you reckon I'd be better off investing in a mattress, even though I don't own a bed? Please help! Also, please be aware I'm quite a chunky lady (i'm not MASSIVE but I'm not thin either), so I guess my weight would contribute to how long the topper would last! moreResolved Question: What kind of bed would be comfortable for us both and not have to spend a lot of money?
I love a soft bed. We had been sleeping on a sofa sleeper mattress on the floor with a 4 in. memory foam on top. It works but i've endured minor back pain/stiffness from it. So we put the thin mattress and memory foam topper on the futon sleeper and I slept more comfortable than I have in months! I felt great! But when told my boyfriend, he complained that he hadn't and that his chest hurts, that the bed is too soft. I don't want to get rid of the foam topper but I would like some suggestions of whats a good compromise for us both. Thanks. moreResolved Question: Is the sleep number just an overpriced air bed?
I am in college and do not have the $1000+ plus to spend on a bed, however I do have back problems. I heard the sleep number is good for back problems but from what I've seen and heard, it just seems like an over-priced guest air mattress($50). My idea was to get a 1 inch memory foam mattress topper(I would get thicker but I get super hot at night already and heard memory foam gets really hot), and an air mattress and use those for my back problems. Does this sound like a good idea? Thanks for the answers so far. But two things: 1. The air mattress I am looking at is adjustable. 2. I sleep alone(being in college). moreResolved Question: It has to be super firm!?
I need a super firm mattress topper. Anyone know of a good solution? I have researched memory foam and latex but need feedback or review information. My husband is big and very tall (not morbidly obese though) and our bed is too squishy. His back problems are getting worse. Any advice is greatly appreciated. moreResolved Question: Want a mattress topper to soften my mattress? Ideas?
I don't like memory foam...I've tried it and it's no good for my back. My current mattress is in good condition, only a few years old, but I find it a little hard sometimes and want something to soften it. Any ideas? Regular foam? Feather bed topper? moreResolved Question: Should I clean the foam mattress topper?
I'm making a pet bed for my guinea pig, and I'd like to use an old piece of memory foam for the inside. It's been in my garage for a year or two, maybe three haha, and I'm wondering if I should clean it before I use it. If you have any suggestions on what else I could use in her bed, that'd be awesome. Thanks so much!! ^=^ moreResolved Question: My memory foam topper turned yellow?
I got it about 6 months ago, it was white, now the top of it has been turned yellow with it being a darker yellow around the edges. I have a white sheet over it that's still white and my bed sheets are all clean. the bottom of the topper is white. Its over the whole mattress even though I usually only sleep on one side of the bed. what is this from?I thought that it could be the aging part just that i thought 6 months was probably too soon for it to do so, thanks moreVoting Question: Cutting Memory Foam Beds?
I have a queen size memory foam bed and I really don't have the space for it anymore. Can anyone offer any experience in cutting memory foam mattresses(NOT toppers), or point me in the right direction? Do you know if the layers of different foam are connected to each other through out the mattress? I really want to cut it to be twin size and not destroy it. Thanks.I've used this mattress for years. I doubt I could get enough money from it to buy a memory foam twin size mattress, they're pretty expensive. moreVoting Question: Buying a new bed: Do you think futons or memory foam is more comfortable?
I slept on a futon while preggo with one of my kids, and it was heavenly. I slept so well and had no aches and pains, so I want one again. My boyfriend says that memory foam mattresses are more comfortable though. I thought about just getting a memory foam topper and putting it on my current mattress, but that's a $200 waste of money if I don't like it and decide to buy a futon instead. Any opinions?Oh and the bed is not something we'll be buying together- we don't live together so it's pretty much up to me. moreResolved Question: Waking up with headaches often.?
So most people I've consulted with on this issue say to "See a doctor". Well I'm recently layed off and don't have health insurance, or money for a doctor, so seeing a doctor isn't an option. I'm hoping there is someone who is familiar with this issue and can possibly provide some insight. I've done hours upon hours of research and testing with no luck so far. I'm 28 years old, and about 2 years ago I started waking up with strong headaches on a regular basis, about once a week, sometimes twice. Many times the headaches will be accompanied by nausea, but not always. They are strong enough to make it extremely difficult and miserable to work (when I was working), took every bit of effort I could muster to not go home sick. Now when I'm at home, they are usually bad enough that they pretty much keep me on the couch the first half of the day. It generally seems to be a headache in the whole front half of my head, and they are generally very difficult to get rid of, usually taking till about noon or 1pm on average before I feel better. Now the thing I find so odd, is I am a very healthy individual, and probably live a healthier lifestyle than 95% of americans. I am in great shape, muscular, about 12% body fat. I get plenty of exercise, 1-2 times a week I'm at the gym, and 3 or more times a week I'm doing sports and other physical activities outdoors. I eat healthy, sticking as close as I can to the food pyramid, recommended intake of calories / fat, etc. I never eat any fried food at all, and limit or eliminate as much as possible any foods with MSG, High fructose corn syrup, Partially hydrogenated oils, and artificial sweeteners. I don't smoke, rarely drink, and don't do any drugs (with the exception of headache medicines when I get a headache). And I'm constantly doing activities to keep my mind sharp. I have no known health problems, and don't really have any unhealthy habits. I've done much research into possible causes, and heres some various things I've tested or tried. I don't seem to to be grinding my teeth at night, I've got headaches even when sleeping with my mouth open. I don't seem to have any breathing problems in my sleep, rarely snore (and if I ever did, my girlfriend will rotate me in a heartbeat), my girlfriend says I seem to breathe fine. I have hypo allergenic pillows, and hypo allergenic memory foam topper, even though I have no known allergies, figured I'd block dust mites as much as possible. I've tried drinking extra water in case its dehydration, but doesn't seem to make a difference. I've tried eating before bed, not eating before bed, etc. Doesn't seem to have any different effect. I live in a good clean house with no known mold or toxins, and I actually moved here from a different house a year ago, so it doesn't seem to be anything related to where I'm living. I've tried changing my diet around to see if any sort of certain food was causing it, but couldn't seem to find any sort of link to any particular food. Back when I was working I was blaming the headaches on lack of sleep, and possibly stress (even though I'm a pretty stress free guy). However after being layed off for a few months I've been getting good sleep, and no stress, but still getting them. Two years of trying all sorts of things and I still haven't found any sort of link to what could be causing them. Does anyone have any ideas of what it could be, or new things to try? moreResolved Question: How can i make my sofa bed mattress more comfortable?
Does anyone have any suggestions on how to make a sofa bed mattress more comfortable? Do those memory foam toppers work for on a sofa bed mattress? any ideas or suggestions would be appreciated. moreResolved Question: Question about memory foam toppers.?
Ok so I plan to buy a memory foam topper to help support my back and to soften the bed. I read some answers on here with people saying that even the 4 inch topper you can buy does not compare to the actual mattress itself. So my question is what if I were to buy three or even four 4" toppers and put them on top of each other? That would give me a total of 12 - 16". How would that compare to the actual mattress? (They don't slide out from one other, I have seen this done before). Please do not tell me to talk to a mattress store worker. The whole reason I'm posting this here is to get the opinions of the yahoo users. moreResolved Question: How to clean mattress topper?
I live in a dorm(freshman in college) and I have a thin memory foam mattress topper for the bed. It's only about an inch thick, with memory foam on top then egg crates on bottom. It works really well but I've been using it since last September and I probably need to clean it. I've febreezed it a couple times, but that it. How would I clean something like that? Its too big to drag to the dry cleaners(I don't have a car, so I would have to take the bus, and it's bulky). I don't think it would fit in the small washers we have. Plus I'm in a dorm so I can't leave it outside to dry. Ideas? moreVoting Question: Memory Foam Mattress Topper?
I want to get a memory foam mattress topper. I have a fairly new queen size bed that is in good condition but is just way to firm for me. I prefer very soft, plush mattresses and I've tried feather bed toppers and alternative toppers and none of them keep their shape for long enough. I think a memory foam topper is right for me. There is nowhere in my town or neighboring cities where I can test toppers (I can test mattresses but I don't want to get a false hope of the difference between a whole mattress and just a topper). My question concerns the density... I've done a little bit of research but I'm still confused. I know I want/need something that is 3 to 4 inches thick or more to make a difference on a firm bed... what I don't know about it density... I want something soft and supportive but not firm... I want to feel like I'm sleeping in a cloud. I have heard so many conflicting opinions and I don't know what density to get. 3 lbs? 4 lbs? 2 lbs? Help!I just want help determining what type of density I should consider. I don't want people to try to change my mind. I've done my research on the safety risks associated with memory foam. moreResolved Question: Question about Memory Foam topper -- don't know what to get?
I am moving into a new apartment and trading in my full size bed for the my parent's spare queen bed. I prefer a softer, plush mattresses and the queen is not that. It is almost brand new (about a year and half old) and isn't used much. I sleep on it when I go home to visit and I had to buy 2 three-inch thick feather-bed toppers to make it comfy -- they worked (made it comfy) but since I slept in the middle they now have flattened in the middle and are very lumpy and uncomfortable. I want something that will be soft and plush and have decided to try a memory foam topper since I love the feel and am fairly confident that I can get a good deal. My question concerns the density... I've done a little bit of research but I'm still confused. I know I want/need something that is 3 inches thick or more to make a difference on a firm bed... what I don't know about it density... I want something soft and supportive but not firm... I want to feel like I'm sleeping in a cloud. I have heard so many conflicting opinions and I don't know what density to get. 3 lbs? 4 lbs? 2 lbs? Help! moreVoting Question: My memory foam topper smells like chemicals?
I opened up my memory foam topper for my bed yesterday and when we opened it, it reeked of that chemical sort of paint smell. It made my whole room smell like this. Is this normal? Will the smell go away? Also is this bad? moreResolved Question: can i use the matress topper memory foams to sleep on the floor (on carpet), i dotn want to buy an extra bed?

Have a nice pillow top matress but after a couple of years there are ruts or indentations where we usually sleep. I was wondering if anyone knew if one of those 3 or 4" memory foam pads on top of my bed would solve the problem or would we still be able to feel them??? Thanks moreResolved Question: Best mattress for mid back pain?
I've been experiencing mid back pain on my right side after being asleep for about 4 hours for over a year now. It hurts so bad, I just have to get up to relieve the discomfort, and then I am fine the rest of the day. We just replaced our 8 year old Kingsdown mattress (after we'd already purchased a 4 inch Sealey memory foam topper for last year) We just purchased a Telluride from Denver Mattress, it is a medium firm pocketed coil with latex foam on the top. I'm still having the exact same problem. I sleep on my side with a pillow between my knees. We've had the new bed for 3 full weeks now, if I am going to return it to try something different, I will have to do so by next weekend. moreResolved Question: What's the best way to clean a memory foam mattress topper?
A few weeks ago, one of my cats was trying to mark her territory and she peed right in the middle of the bed. We have a fairly new memory foam mattress topper. I kind of rinsed it as best I could (seeing that it was 10 PM and I had an early day the next day) and sprayed it down with Febreeze and let it dry. To the smell, the next day, it was fine, but I continued to let it "air out". I haven't been able to use it because it smells a whole lot like cat pee, and I can't get the smell out. What is the best way to clean the mattress topper? I have no idea what would "ruin" it, so I'm not sure exactly what to do. Any advice is much appreciated. moreResolved Question: Where can i get a Super Soft Mattress Topper?
Hello, i am looking for a mattress topper to make my bed softer. I want something that i can sink into and have a hard time getting up because i sunk into it so far. I already tried memory foam and that was even harder than i thought it was going to be. I don't know what a ''SUPER SOFT MATTRESS TOPPER'' would be called? I had tried a display bed at big lots and i layed on a bed of theirs and it had somekind of topper on it..there was a box sitting there saying what it was and everything but i have a king bed and they didnt have it in a KING so i didnt worry about it and didnt care to write down what the topper was called..so i can search it or something..but anyways! I need something extremely soft (like a cloud!) that i can sink really deep into like the display in BIG LOTS! please help me? i want my bed to be extraaaaaaaaa soft!!!!!!!!!!! moreResolved Question: Has anyone tried the Simmons Vilamourapt Mattress especially made for Mattress Warehouse?
I am curious about a mattress at Mattress Warehouse that is by Simmons but is especially made for Mattress Warehouse. I wold like to know if anyone has tried the Simmons Vilamourapt-Q-Mattress especially made for Mattress Warehouse? I have purchased 3 different beds in the past year and half but have not found a bed that I like. I have gone from the softest of pillow tops to a very firm and yet they all seem to still bother my back and pressure points, and even the soft pillowtops make my lower back feel as if it's gonna break. The last one I purchased is a very firm bed and I chose to purchase a Serta 4-inch Memory Foam Mattress Topper Contour. But I still have the pressure points going on and I feel as if I have to fight to get out of the bed because of the 4" memory foam topper. I'm open for suggestions if anyone would like to offer any. Thanks in advance moreResolved Question: Would this Mattress Pad help me?
Ok so I bought a futon like a year and a half ago to use at my primary bed. Well from the start it wasn't incredibly comfortable, but now it's flattened out and it's almost like I'm just sleeping on the bars. I can't afford a better mattress or another bed, So I'm thinking of buying a Memory Foam Mattress pad like this http://www.overstock.com/Home-Garden/Memory-Foam-1-inch-Mattress-Topper/834925/product.html Would that help? Thanks. moreResolved Question: What is the best (and most cost-effective) memory foam topper on the market?
Hey everyone! Im pretty low on money right now, but i need to buy a new, queen-sized mattress and box spring set. I was thinking i would buy a set that is reasonably cheap - nothing expensive. Then buy a memory-foam topper to balance out the hard mattress. I figure this will be far less expensive than buying a high-end mattress set which can run into the thousands. Do you guys thinks my plan would work? Do you think the bed would be comfortable? How thick should the memory foam topper be to ensure comfort? Thanks so much for your responses! moreResolved Question: How significant is the difference between 2-4" on a Latex Mattress Topper?
My fiance and I are looking into getting a latex mattress topper (NOT memory foam!). Most of our shopping is being done online, and while the reviews are good for both 2-4" pads, we're not sure how much is really necessary. We want to make our bed more comfortable, but with the large price difference per inch, we really don't want to get a thicker one than we need. If anyone has used a 2 or 3" latex mattress topper and had good results- or poor results- we'd like to know. Which thickness would you recommend? moreResolved Question: Has anyone tried the Therapedic Memory Touch Visco-Tech Mattress Topper?
I do not sleep through the night and I always wake up feeling tired and wore out. I have purchased two cheap memory foam mattress toppers in the past, but I didn't like either one. My friend has the Terapedic Memory Touch 3" mattress topper and she swears by it. I went to her house and laid on it, and it seems nice, but laying on it for a few mins is different than sleeping through the night on it. I want to buy it but I'm scared because it costs so much money. She got it from Bed Bath and Beyond. They seem to have a good return policy, but my friend says that there is no way to get it back in the box once you take it out. Anyone tried it? moreResolved Question: Can I ditch my mattress and just use a memory foam topper or two as a mattress instead?
my bro and I have bunk beds and i sleep on the bottom so I am limited on space. I would love a full memory foam mattress but they are expensive. and adding a 3inch topper will give me less room. My question is (because a buddy told me) that i could take a king or queen topper and cut it in half and use it to sleep on.. Assuming i buy a 3-4inch topper, cut in half and stacked would make a 6-8inch layer, which would be more than my current 5inch mattress. and since we have bunk beds i had a solid 3/4inch thick peice of MDF board on the bottom. Or i could just buy two twin toppers and use them. Any thoughts or suggestions. moreResolved Question: Staying asleep all night without pills. Any tips?
I was just wondering if anyone had any sort of home remedy or trick they use or have heard of to stay asleep all throught the night. I wake up about 15-20 times a night whether to roll over, or just because I'm wide awake. Its really annoying when my boyfriend spends the night and needs a good nights rest the next day for work, because he wakes up everytime I do.. I don't wanna resort to sleep aids, because they are habbit forming. I just rescently got a memory foam mattress topper for my bed, but it hasn't help at all. So please, if you know of anything to eat or drink or whatever before bed to stay asleeep longer, please let me know. I'm a single straight male... my bed currently consists of a memory foam topper, a sleeping bag, and a pillow I stole from my parents. So I go down to Wal-Mart and start looking for what I think is some sheets and a blanket... but got blown away by the 7 aisles completely dedicated of bed stuffs: Duvets, covers, micro-fibre blankets, pillow covers, pillow fluffers, double sided, comforters, winter, summer, single sided, micro whatever, 1000 thread count, 5 thread count, wool, stitched, synthetics, leather??? I have no idea!! I looked for what I thought was a "blanket" and pulled out what looked like a beach towel! All the pictures on the labels show entire beds but when the pack fits in the palm of my hand I really get the impression that I am not holding a full size blanket. And that's just the start. Here is the background: * I currently have a good Isotonic Memory Foam Bed. * 6 months ago I lost the “padding” on my backside, thereby causing me problems with my SI joint (in physical therapy etc, due to muscle and fat loss). * I have never had problems with my back or my bed up till this point. * I have deduced I need to add a topper to my bed (been using extra padding under me at night on bed and seems to temporarily fix the problem). * From my research online here is what I think I need: a. Dunlop Latex Topper (cooler, longer lasting and better for larger people) b. A least 3 Inches high c. Looking for Queen Size * Problem is there are too many choices, varying degree in prices and frankly I just want to find something soon so I can have some relief from the pain. So, these are my questions: 1. Am I correct in choosing Latex vs. Memory Foam? 2. Am I correct in choosing Dunlop? 3. Am I correct in looking for 3 inches or higher? 4. Can you suggest what ILD or firmness I should get? 5. Can anyone suggest a reputable company or place I can purchase one for a “reasonable” price? 6. Any other questions or comments are welcome.
