Buying A Mattress Questions and Answers
Open Question: Can I reuse a crib matress for my 2nd child?
My eldest who is going on 5 is going to get a full size bed shortly and I was wondering if it was ok to use her toddler bed mattress for the new baby. The mattress is still in pretty good condition. Or should i buy the baby a new mattress? moreOpen Question: A question about Mainstays Contempo Futon?
Okay. Well, recently i had to get rid of my bed. I had a cheap $50 futon from a yard sale. It got bent up and was murdering my back to sleep on. Now i am sleeping on my old mattress the floor. The bed i was looking at was a black Mainstays Contempo Futon. I want to know from people who have this bed if it is worth it to buy and sleep on for an indefinite amount of time, or if i will just end up replacing it in a few months. What is the mattress for it like? What is the frame like? Thank You! moreOpen Question: Is It Safe to Buy Then Use a Used Mattress?

Me and my boyfriend (we're 16/18) are moving to a city 2 hours away to live with my aunt for the summer (to work/have a more fun summer). It's going to be like living on our own, but we won't be paying bills. Just need to buy our room stuff and food(she has food, i just prefer my specific things lol). I know I'm going to need to buy a huge air mattress, and things to put my clothes and stuff in organized. But what else am I forgetting? Thanks! - B. moreOpen Question: which is the convertible crib for baby with a price range of 100 to 250?Can you please suggest a best mattress?
Hi, I am looking for the best affordable crib ( convertible ) and mattress to buy at store. Also can you please let me know where i can buy affordable bedding set. Thank you. moreOpen Question: Bed Help - Mattress height?!?
I'm doing my room out for the Summer. I know which bedstead and mattress I would like, however I've seen beds where the mattress sits level with the frame of the bed, as opposed to on top of the slats really low down. I find it uncomfortable sleeping on the mattress with just slats and the mattress usually sinks through a little which would ruin the mattress. I've been things like bases but these are just for divans, and putting another mattress underneath wouldn't really work cause it'd still sink through, not offering much support. Is there anything I can buy, like a platform type thing to raise the mattress up a little? I'm not one for sleeping low down either, so this added 'boost' really is just that. Thanks in advance. moreOpen Question: Is a pillow top mattress or tempurpedic good for anyone?
got a pillow top a few years ago as my husband was complaining that our mattress which I found perfect, was too firm. We agreed on a firmness and bought a pillow top mattress a few years ago. At first it was comfy, but I soon realized that you can't flip a pillow top mattress, only rotate it which sort of makes it dip in both sides.. Not to mention it's really hot! If we lived up north I might like it, but in Texas it makes us hot. The small back problems I had seem terrible when I wake up, and although it's partly my age, I think some of it is due to the lack of support with the PT, which I got with a regular mattress. If you have back aches, is it better to have a firm or soft mattress?K- thought of sleep number, but isn't that kind of like an air mattress? I'm thinking of getting a king box spring and getting two twins of different firmness to put on top. Is that possible? moreOpen Question: We new a new strong bed! Help please!?
I moved in with my boyfriend last year. He had a mattress and a box spring on the floor and had been sleeping on it for about a year. Once we moved in together, we decided to get a mattress and box spring because the old box spring was noisy. So we bought a new mattress, box spring and a bed frame to go with. About 10 months later, our new box spring becomes noisy and then the bed frame starts to break. It may be a weight thing (our combined weight is about 450lbs) but I'm not sure. I thought about getting a platform bed to avoid the noisy box springs and provide more support since the frame didn't hold up. Is this a good way to go? Any experiences would be helpful. I know I wrote a lot but thanks in advance! moreOpen Question: How can I stop new sheets that I buy from shrinking?
When I buy new cotton sheets for my bed and wash them a few times they always shrink and the lower sheet with the elastic on the sides doesn't hug and cover the mattress completely. Is there any way to stop that? I always follow the washing instructions btw. moreResolved Question: neighbour gave me bed bugs..plz help!?

For some reason I stay hot. During the winter when it's 20 to 30 outside I'm actually comfortable. Now it's spring going on summer. Me and my wife lived alone until the economy did a number on us. She lost her job and wasn't able to find another one. We lost our home and had to move in with her mother. My wife's mom is one of those "can't run the air it runs up the electric bill" types. We're forced to stay here because we have no place else to go and my wife decided to return back to school instead of work because work was so hard to find. Our room is a furnace. I can handle it during the day but at night when I'm trying to sleep I lie there in bed and sweat. Our white sheet has fade stains on my side of the bed where the our brown mattress is actually fading onto our white sheet from my sweat. I don't cover up at all and I have three fans blowing on me. Opening the windows don't help because the windows do not have screens and bugs namely mosquitoes get in and you can figure out the rest. My wife lies in bed covered up to her neck cold while I lie next to her on fire. Why am I so hot when everybody else is so cold? What can I do to help cool myself off at night to help me get more than 5 to 6 hours of sleep before I have to get up for work? Is there some kind of meds I can take or maybe a cooling product I can buy? I know they make heating blankets but do they make cooling blankets? I know all this sounds stupid but I'm suffering. We've lived here for going on four months and every night I get only about 5 hours of sleep and I'm exhausted. Any suggestions would be nice thanks.Ok the Tommy answerer that was the stupidest answer I've ever heard. HIV? Geez night sweats is also a symptom of leukemia but I doubt I have that. Next time think before you answer. moreOpen Question: Plans for wooden chair- indoor use-'easy to take down/put up'?
Alright, I need a small project for this summer and I think I've found one. I'm headed back to college next semester (mid august) and I have no real sitting furniture to bring(besides a dinky desk chair they give us) I'm looking to make a wooden chair (maybe adirondack style) that can support a decent amount, is relatively easy to assemble and dissemble (meaning no nails that have to be used upon each re-assemble) I'm not really looking for something that requires more than wood/hardware/tools (as in doesn't require a mattress --> like a futon). This could be a one-seater or perhaps a love-seat (but hopefully not 2 much larger) Sorry if its 2 much information-- but, by chance does anyone have plans that fit this description- or know of a website that hosts information like that? -- Or even perhaps a book I can buy? moreOpen Question: every how many years do you buy a new mattress?

Ok so I have a problem and I need some advice. I am moving this summer but not right into the house I bought.. were remodeling it and so I am going to stay in a rental house for the time being while its remodeled. My problem is its a furnished house already.. I am going to stay in a bed and well every month my period is super heavy always has been since I started, and its seven days long on my bed now its really hard for me not to leak.. I mean I wash everything and it gets part of the stain out but not all. So I was wondering what I can do so I don't ruin this persons bedding. What types of things could I do to prevent leaking through to the sheets and or mattress? I use a really thick pad, thickest I have found anywhere and I still leak through. Thanks so much for the help/advice. moreResolved Question: What's the return policy at Ashley Furniture Homestore?
What's the return policy at Ashley Furniture Homestore because I bought a twin size mattress and I slept on it and the bed is so hard. So I compared it with a thin bed on the ground and the twin size mattress and I rather sleep on the ground than that bed. It really sucks. I'd like to know if I can return it (it's been less than 48 hours) it's opened because obviously I had to sleep on it. Is it possible to return for a full refund or even for store credit? moreOpen Question: Should we hire a campervan to drive around the USA?
We are travelling around the USA from mid september to the end of october. We were going to hire a car and buy a tent and stay at various campsites throughout california, portland, utah and nevada. However we've seent that it is only about £200 more to hire a basic campervan with a mattress in the back. We're on a tight budget and have been looking at prices for campsites and its a bit more expensive in some camps if you are in an RV - does this include campervans (we wouldn't need to hook up to electricity or anything). Do campsites let you bring a campervan but sleep in a tent? Does anyone have any advice about camping in the USA? Thanks! moreOpen Question: Tips on buying a new mattress?
We have just moved into our first home together and are looking to buy a new bed. We have settled on a bedstead but now need to buy a mattress. We are fairly comfortable with the spec (we want pocket springs and fairly firm) but are not sure who the most reputable brands are for length of life, nor roughly how much we should be paying. Anyone out there recently bought a mattress and can give us some insight? Thanks! moreOpen Question: What is the proper way to set up a bed? I want that "showroom" look!?
Okay so I bought this entire bed set. But I don't know how exactly to set it up (Order, etc.) Here's what I bought: 2 extra-long flat sheets 2 extra-long fitted sheets 1 extra-long reversible comforter 1 extra-long thermal cotton blanket 1 extra-soft fleece throw 1 extra-long quilted mattress pad 1 extra-long egg crate pad moreVoting Question: People say I'm a "mommy's little princess" before even getting to know me?
I didn't grow up rich. We were lower middle class at best, we really struggled some months. We couldn't buy things at the end of some months. I grew up in a dysfunctional family, my mother was abusive and both of my siblings were mentally ill and my sister spent around a year in a psychiatric ward and I'd go every day to visit her when I was around 8. There was crime where I lived, although it wasn't as bad as it could've been, but there were still bomb threats and my school went on lock down many times because of murders in the area. People were killed nearby and there was one serial killer around, my school was closed and when it opened there were men with huge guns outside my school because he'd shot a kid outside a school. There were shootings at nearby malls. I didn't feel safe a lot of the time. I grew up being in the ethnic minority. That doesn't mean I look homeless or don't take care of myself. I wear nice clothes (although we can't afford to buy them that often, most of my clothes are 2+ years old), and I do my hair and makeup and look very put together. My mother had fits of rage when things weren't clean, so I always had to make sure everything was perfectly clean and perfectly aligned, so my room is always perfectly clean, as are my clothes, and my appearance could, I guess, be considered a little preppy. I moved to a different country when I was 12, everyone here is white (I am too), incredibly small minded and racist. They freely use the "n" word and think it's hilarious, they don't realize what they're doing is wrong. There is virtually no crime here, I don't think there has been a murder here in 20+ years. Everyone knows each other, the people here are among the richest in the world, they're always listed at the top of the quality of life lists. They're spoiled. I'm not sure exactly why, though, but I've been referred to as "mommy's little princess" by people who barely knew me. I'm obviously not going to call them out on it and tell them that my mother is mentally ill and was incredibly abusive growing up, so I just say, "ok", or something. They ask me what my parents do, and I tell them, and they laugh and say I must be pretty rich, and imply that I'm spoiled. I don't know why it sounds like they make a lot of money, but they really don't. Again, I'm not about to tell them that I slept in a ******* tiny closet (the mattress barely fit in it) as a kid because we couldn't afford a house with enough bedrooms. I do drink, and I’ve been drinking before they’d even tasted alcohol. I don’t feel the need to brag about it, though. I don’t smoke because that’s stupid. The people here think that they’re tortured souls and “soooo rebellious” for smoking, and sleeping with everything that moves. People (and I mean most 13-year-olds+) have blogs here where they list the people they’ve slept with and talk about what it was like. Yet, when I drink or smoke occasionally or something, they all laugh at me, and go like, “hahahha, is ____ smoking? I have to see this!” When they hear about where I came from, they probably think I lived like the spoilt goody two shoes kids on the old American TV shows. I don’t sleep around because I have standards, and I do respect myself and I think that what they’re doing is ridiculous. The most goody two shoes girl I’ve ever seen, who’s lived in that town her whole life, is incredibly privileged and has always gone to the best schools and whose parents are both rich, went like, “hahah, ____ didn’t smoke, did she?” How do I get them to shut the **** up?**** off denzie moreVoting Question: Back pain/problems. What changes to my bed can help?
I am 6'4 and weight 200+ pounds. I have a double bed which I got for around £279. It is quite cheap but it had a memory foam layer (which turns out to be shit) for the mattress. I got this bed because my other one was giving me seriously back problems. For the first few weeks it was fine and I could feel the difference it was making, but recently I have had some scares and the other day it felt like my lower back went and I would get these weird pains (like I could feel the back bones rubbing against each other) when I moved in certain ways. Long story short, I really can't afford to buy another bed and my room does not have nearly enough size for a king size. So I was thinking if I could change things about my bedding which are likely to help. Anyone got any advice? I was thinking of getting a new pillow (John Lewis have those Super Comfort ones which feel amazing when I touch them (I work there)) and one of those memory foam layers (god knows what's with me and this stuff), but those are really expensive. Any advice anybody? BTW: I am 21, 6'4 and the feeling I get when I am sleeping is like I am lying on my stomach and someone is lifting my legs over my head. I get the feeling on the top of my neck and lower back then the whole is bending towards each other at each end. I also constantly have a stiff back and I now naturally take much longer to to bend down and get things and find my self also supporting myself before I reach down and grab almost anything. moreResolved Question: What is the most comfortable, a box Springs or Slat bed for a foundation for my latex bed?

Hello, I am looking to purchase a sleeping bag pad for my Big Agnes Hog Park sleeping bag, i am only looking to spend between 30-50 dollars, i am looking for a foam pad, preferably closed cell and would prefer not to buy a self inflating air mattress. would also prefer a large one with a width of 25" and max length of 75"-78", weight is not really an issue as it will mostly be car camping. I have researched this over and over and I have found a lot of people with similar problems but there isn't any resolution. Here is my problem. I usually go to bed pain free. I sleep any where from 4-6 hours and BAM! the worst sharp pain in my mid back. No matter what position I am in it hurts and usually doesn't feel better until I wake up and move around. I have been to chiropractors, doctors, had blood tests, urine tests, x-rays, everything seems fine. I have changed my bed and even went as far as buying a nice expensive mattress, with no relief. I was put on a routine to stretch which targets the area, but doesn't seem to help the morning pain. I know there are a lot of people who have a similar problem and I was hoping someone found some relief from this. I am a healthy 27 yo male, active, and in good shape. Any info would be great. Have you or anyone you know bought a mattress from Sleepy's or Ikea? Here are the details: We are looking to spend aroubd 1k, and Sleepy's appears to have higher-end models in that range. Ikea only has a couple. We used a cheap one for years, and I feel like a name-brand (like Serta) may be better because I have sleep problems. A cheap mattress will not do anymore. Maybe people who said '...meh..." about Ikea bought cheap ones (many reviews of Ikea indicate that people were not as happy)? I hear Ikea can be a pain. We would have to drive to Brooklyn (1/2 hr.+ on the BQE), park, find the mattress we want (if it is even displayed-not many are), and find it in the warehouse and arrange shipping, but there is a Sleepy's around the corner from my apartment. Considering your experience with either store...would you have gone to a lot of trouble (and waiting) for the Ikea, or gone with a name-brand with a very close location that delivers quickly and on time? Thta seems like a no-brainer to me...but should i know something bad about Sleepy's? Thanks guys, I really appreciate your sharing your experience!Godd@mnit, Adam!OK, Adam wins by default. Word to the wise...we went to the Brooklyn Ikea, and the displays for mattresses were so disgusting (Shoe prints, wierd brown stains, empty coke bottles, food wrappers, beds that were literally broken, wow...they lost our $). We were gonna buy today, but without being able to lay down on any of them without fear of lice/filth/herps, NO WAY...do not go to the Brooklyn IKEA to look at mattresses!!! For the love of all that is holy, don't do it. Hobos crash there at night. Think of your children! moreResolved Question: Is this true about the "Nigerian Prince" Scam?
By now, everybody on the Internet is familiar with the "419 Nigerian Prince scam"--a "Prince" in Nigeria claims he has millions of dollars hidden away in some mysteriously locked account that may or may not be guarded by a fearsome dragon that only one of pure blood can open. The good news is he will gladly share it with you, and the even better news is that you only have to send him a few thousand dollars to get in on the action. Even though it's now become the Internet equivalent of the old cliche "bridge in Brooklyn" scam, occasionally a little old lady who keeps her money under her cat's mattress does get taken in and loses a few thousand dollars. That doesn't surprise us. What does surprise us is when somebody like Nelson Sakaguchi falls for it. You see, Sakaguchi was director of the Bank Noreste, in charge of--you cannot make this **** up--its overseas accounts. While Sakaguchi presumably came armed with a vast array of knowledge from a lifelong career in bank management, he was no match for the Nigerians who probably came armed with a fax machine from a foreclosed-on Staples, some second-hand Hypercolor sweaters and a command of the English language only rivaled by Japanese t-shirts run through Babelfish a few times. The spammers sent Sakaguchi an invitation from the Nigerian government to get in on a plan to build an airport, because the usual bag-with-money-sign was considered played out that season. Sakaguchi agreed to a meeting and met with a man who introduced himself as the director of the Bank of Nigeria. How did he fool a sharp-eyed real life bank director? He had a business card! That's seriously it. He promptly wired them $4 million dollars. We don't know off hand what the exchange rate is in Nigeria, but we're pretty sure that's enough money to buy the entire country and staff it with Diamond-encrusted whore robots. But the scammers weren't content with precious jewel skankbot money; oh no. They continued playing him even after he'd wired them enough money to start a minor but influential religion. Building an airport ain't cheap, and Sakaguchi just kept transferring cash. Luckily for him, both Lloyd's Bank and Citigroup also had hired directors with only a dim understanding of the word "money," because somehow no one in the giant corporation saw anything suspicious about the millions of dollars being funneled through their accounts to "some dude" in Nigeria. When the other directors at Sakaguchi's bank started noticing that the piles of money they used to jump into were noticeably worse at cushioning their cannonballs, they finally put a stop to it. Unfortunately, by that time Sakguchi had sent $242 million to the scammers. Oh, but don't worry: Not all of it was lost to the Nigerians. $20 million of the money was actually lost when he paid a Voodoo priestess to buy 240,000 pigeons for a ritual to help him get out of his jam. The pigeons, as usual, contributed nothing helpful. And yes i got this from www.Cracked.com moreVoting Question: where can i buy a cheap crib mattress online?

Here is the link and there is only one customer review so that didn't really help. http://www.argos.co.uk/static/Product/partNumber/6632520.htm Thank-you! moreResolved Question: Why do i need to buy a brand new, stinky chemical fume crib mattress for my baby?
I have been googling for an hour and cannot find one good logical explaination for why I cant use a year old crib mattress that has been previously enjoyed by another baby... all the references I find relating to sids are far more concerned with the chemicals that are given off when matresses are new. Yet every advise column strictly forbids used matresses and its apparently even illegal to 'sell' a used crib matress. Can anyone out there please shed some light on this mystery? Our baby is coming in less than 2 months, and I think what we have is fine. But really, can you tell me why it isnt? moreBuying A Mattress News

Reading this article will show you a few guidelines that need to be considered before actually buying a mattress. buying a mattress is a major investment and one that is likely to last you a good few years. It has been suggested that you first evaluate what you have in terms of pros and cons, combine the results with knowledge you gain through your research and then go shopping for a quality mattress. Let us look at the choices available to someone buying a mattress. The more popular choices include: Innerspring – this type of mattress enjoys rather a widespread popularity. It is characterized by tempered steel coils for support; layers of upholstery provide insulation and help cushion the body. This type of mattress is prone to sagging and you cannot judge quality solely by the number of coils the mattress contains. Foam – they come in solid core or a lamination of several layers together. There’s latex foam and polyurethane foam; there’s also the newer NASA invention – memory foam, a visco-elastic foam for added comfort and cushioning.
