Resolved Question: Has any one been ripped off by the Carolina Mattress Guild?

I bought a mattress that was supposed to have a 20 year warranty. The card at the end of the bed said so at least. After a couple of days the foam underneath my husbands side had completed shifted to my side... making it over 6 inches higher. I checked my warranty card with the tag you aren't allowed to remove and I only had a 10 year warranty. To make things worse, I called the place where I bought it so they could report it to the factory and they said they were having so many issues with this company they werent even messing with them anymore! Carolina Mattress Guild will not return my calls! Help! What do I do! The retailer told me I could switch to another brand, but I dont want them to get stuck with this mattress either. more

Resolved Question: Why doesnt my husband want to get a job?

I will try to make this as short as possible. I dont want a divorce. I cant pay for the advice I need. We have been married for 3 years. 2 kids together. one step daughter who is spoiled and one crazy ex wife. My husband and I met in the military. I convinced him to get out but get in the reserves. He was to jealous and wouldn't go once a month or let me go so we were kicked out. He got a job right away. I couldn't stand living near his crazy drug abusing family so we moved to another state where my family is. He wouldn't get a job. we go to school and get money from the GI bill. WE were supposed to save that money an live off what he was making. When he did get a job at a factory he was offered a better job in a career. turned that job down knowing he was going to get laid off at his current job. Got laid off then said he wanted to move back to the state he was from to see his daughter more. Then decided that she doesn't want to be around him so we moved back to my state. He wont get a job. He wants to be a professional poker player and has gambled our money away. Said he would get a job. looked on day and not since then. We live with my mother in the back bedroom and our kids sleep on a mattress on the floor. I think he relies on our school money to much. He has been trying to get back in the army this whole time but because of some issues he is having problems. He wont let me get a job because it will make him look bad that I work and he doesn't. I don't really want to leave him alone with the kids because he wont clean and he is not very patient with them. In February we will know if he is getting in the military or not. He says this is what he really wants but he is overweight and doesn't exercise. Even if the army will let him in he will not pass weight. Divorce is not an option. I love him but I want him to be a better husband. And he wonders why we dont have sex. Hello no job, living in my moms house, kids sleeping on floor next to us. blah blah blah... I am getting really depressed, stressed, and fat. Help me. more

Resolved Question: What state is your glovebox in?

I was fortunate enough to be able to purchase a new car recently, but within one week the glovebox resembled an explosion in a mattress factory; filled with random items occupying random spaces, with the possibility of finding any particular item miniscule. I would like to know what your glovebox is like and what are it's contents? Mine contains a few CDs, a duster (never used), various charging leads but no gloves. more

Resolved Question: Will I be able to get my money back from the purchase of a bed?

Last night I paid money for a mattress at Mattress Discounters. I have decided that there is mattress at a different store that I want more. I'm looking over the paperwork for the purchase I made and it says all sales are final. Well, I just paid my money last night and the item is not due for delivery until next Saturday. If I call in this morning do you think I'll be able to cancel the order? I don't even think the salesman has had time to contact the factory at this point. more

I just paid money for a mattress at Mattress Discounters. I have decided that there is mattress at a different store that I want more. I'm looking over the paperwork for the purchase I made and it says all sales are final. Well, I just paid my money tonight and the item is not due for delivery until next Saturday. If I call in the morning do you think I'll be able to cancel the order? I don't even think the salesman has had time to contact the factory at this point. We were able to cancel the order because we had not yet received the merchandise. I was able to find the model of the bed that I wanted at a different store for a slightly better price; so, I'm good. Thanks for your comments. Resolved Question: Dream Interpretations?

I had a dream that I was a Japanese mattress factory worker (in Japan). Aliens were taking over Japan and using the women to increase their population. The women were becoming pregnant with alien babies and when they had the babies their heads exploded. My best friend at the factory was pregnant and she started having her baby on a mattress on the factory floor. Her head exploded right as the doctor ( who just happened to be wandering the floor) held up the baby alien. Then I woke up. Any meaning to the madness? more

Resolved Question: Spiritually speaking, why are good mattresses still so darned expensive?

Surely in this day & age what with manufacturing costs on everything ridiculously low and factories going vacant for lack of work a good mattress suitable for five years or so (depending on usage) can be put within everyone's reach, regardless of creed, colour or belief... (spot the night worker, folks) Happy dreams to you & yours. more

Resolved Question: Where in New York City is this artists' "hotel"?

I read an article in the Times about two years ago about a "hotel" in one of the boros of New York City--I don't think it was Manhattan, it was probably Brooklyn?--that was originally a warehouse space or a factory space. "Rooms" are simply open cubicles with fence doors. There are rows of them and they are stacked one on top of the other, and they are not soundproof. The room consists of a very, very cramped space with the "floor" covered only by a sleeping mattress. The ceilings are too low for anyone to stand up. It is NOT one of those Japanese cubicle hotels. According to the article, the "hotel" is ideal for artists because the rates are very low, it's possible to do work (especially writing) in the tiny rooms, and many people like the Bohemian sort of cramped-community feel. I've been looking for the name and location of this place ever since I accidentally threw out the article. I can't seem to find it on Google. Could anyone help me out here? more

Resolved Question: Is it too soon to start purchasing major big ticket items?

I will be 16 weeks on Sunday and getting very worried that I won't have everything by the time the baby gets here. We went and looked at a few places a couple of weeks ago, so I have an idea of what type of crib I want and what it will cost. Burlington Coat Factory has a 90 layaway plan, and Sears has layaway for 60 days. I don't know what I'm having yet, but thought I should get a head start on the crib at the very least. I have been looking on Craigslist and have found some bargains with crib and furniture, but I don't know if I should buy it now and pay cash (that I am holding) or pay it out on layaway. Also, is it a good idea to buy a used mattress even though most people say it's gently used?We both work but hadn't really planned for this pregnancy, as I didn't think I could get pregnant due to PCOS and other reproductive issues. Also, we are not the best savers. more

Resolved Question: A low-pitched resonating noise at night ?

Recently, at night, whilst in bed, Ive become aware of a distant / faint low-pitched resonating / deep humming type noise. When my head is on 1 side , on the pillow, it's even more noticeable, it's as though it's almost coming through the mattress. I can detect the occasional fluctuation in the noise, but generally its at 1 pitch. It's annoying me, anybody know or have any ideas what it could be ? I live in a spacious, quiet area, overlooking woods, no pylons, no factories, no roads. Thanks. more

Resolved Question: Are new mattresses on craigslist for $70 a scam?

I need a cheap mattress and I would prefer a new one. I saw a few listings on craigslist.org for new mattresses at really low prices. The ads claim they are still in factory wrapping. Is this a scam of some sort? What's the catch? more

Resolved Question: What is theme of this poem?

The Concrete River by Luis J. Rodríguez We sink into the dust, Baba and me, Beneath brush of prickly leaves; Ivy strangling trees--singing Our last rites of locura. Homeboys. Worshipping God-fumes Out of spray cans. Our backs press up against A corrugated steel fence Along the dried banks Of a concrete river. Spray-painted outpourings On walls offer a chaos Of color for the eyes. Home for now. Hidden in weeds. Furnished with stained mattresses And plastic milk crates. Wood planks thrust into thick branches serve as roof. The door is a torn cloth curtain (knock before entering). Home for now, sandwiched In between the maddening days. We aim spray into paper bags. Suckle them. Take deep breaths. An echo of steel-sounds grates the sky. Home for now. Along an urban-spawned Stream of muck, we gargle in The technicolor synthesized madness. This river, this concrete river, Becomes a steaming, bubbling Snake of water, pouring over Nightmares of wakefulness; Pouring out a rush of birds; A flow of clear liquid On a cloudless day. Not like the black oil stains we lie in, Not like the factory air engulfing us; Not this plastic death in a can. Sun rays dance on the surface. Gray fish fidget below the sheen. And us looking like Huckleberry Finns/ Tom Sawyers, with stick fishing poles, As dew drips off low branches As if it were earth's breast milk. Oh, we should be novas of our born days. We should be scraping wet dirt with callused toes. We should be flowering petals playing ball. Soon water/fish/dew wane into A pulsating whiteness. I enter a tunnel of circles, Swimming to a glare of lights. Family and friends beckon me. I want to be there, In perpetual dreaming; In the din of exquisite screams. I want to know this mother-comfort Surging through me. I am a sliver of blazing ember entering a womb of brightness. I am a hovering spectre shedding scarred flesh. I am a clown sneaking out of a painted mouth in the sky. I am your son, amá, seeking the security of shadows, fleeing weary eyes bursting brown behind a sewing machine. I am your brother, the one you threw off rooftops, tore into with rage--the one you visited, a rag of a boy, lying in a hospital bed, ruptured. I am friend of books, prey of cops, lover of the barrio women selling hamburgers and tacos at the P&G Burger Stand. I welcome this heavy shroud. I want to be buried in it-- To be sculptured marble In craftier hands. Soon an electrified hum sinks teeth Into brain--then claws Surround me, pull at me, Back to the dust, to the concrete river. Let me go!--to stay entangled In this mesh of barbed serenity! But over me is a face, Mouth breathing back life. I feel the gush of air, The pebbles and debris beneath me. "Give me the bag, man," I slur. "No way! You died, man," Baba said. "You stopped breathing and died." "I have to go back!...you don't understand..." I try to get up, to reach the sky. Oh, for the lights--for this whore of a Sun, To blind me. To entice me to burn. Come back! Let me swing in delight To the haunting knell, To pierce colors of virgin skies. Not here, along a concrete river, But there--licked by tongues of flame! The higher you set your expectations of yourself the futher you will go. The less you expect from yourself is the least you will recieve.the top sentence is what i think the theme is but i'm not sure. more

Resolved Question: Should I keep my new mattress or return it?

We recently bought a mattress at Slumberland and the display mattress was a lot softer than the one we got. We had to take pictures of the tags and send them and they said that it is the right mattress. The display mattress looked and felt different, the pattern and thread color was different, ours didn't have the name brand plate on the end of it, and it was not as plush . We still have a few days to decide if we want to return it, but we can only return it for a different mattress or for store credit. We really liked a mattress from a local mattress factory, but I don't know if it's worth the trouble of trying to return the one we got and have all of this money we can only use for store credit. I'm thinking about just getting a feather bed or memory foam topper for it. What do you think I should do? more

Voting Question: Are you ready to stop bank abuse?

We all hope that some bank CEO will find the bravery to reverse their abusive policies. I call on all celebrities, anyone who can, to join in a boycott and withdraw your money from American banks. The speculation of banks folding compared with wanton, unethical treatment of good, moral people is a no-brainer. Withdrawing from banks is the lesser of the two evils. Use Swiss banks, any banks that you can other than American banks. As one reporter said, the mattress is looking good right now. I do realize that many of you have already had to resort to that. History has shown that the social injustices that have been partially corrected were begrudgingly done so only because of societal pressure. Denying female citizens the right to vote, denying human dignity to black citizens, actually making it illegal to teach a slave, refusing to pay reparations to victims of factory toxins. Cops who beat their wives getting the protection of the police force because of their code of silence. So many victims of fraud. In our thirties and with two babies in tow, my husband I built onto our first home. We pick-axed the trench, poured concrete, hammered thousands of nails, lifted 2 by 4’s; nailed window headers, installed a full bath, lifted tar rolls and shingles to the new roof, spackled, painted. That two-year process was back-breaking work, but my children got rooms and we began to grow financially. I remember my children saving their Christmas and birthday money in Bank of America, $15 dollars at a time. I was teaching them the value of saving money. Each child got their accounts up to $85.00. Bank of America never told me that the accounts had to be at least $100. So, my children’s gift money from relatives was taken by Bank of America. So began my lessons with Bank of Amevil. Years of viciously tremendous MBNA interest fees never allowed us to decrease our debt with them. While MBNA made 100% profit for years on all of our payments, our balance just kept increasing. When we bought our final house, National City Mortgage held the loan. You can do all of the research you’d like in order to make an informed decision, but in the end, you will probably go with the advice of the “experts.” In 2007, my husband and I lost our home, all of our retirement, had to sell a car, moved three times within a year, sporadically go grocery shopping and usually have 10 or 2 items in the fridge, have ceased purchasing clothes even at the thrift shop, have canceled home phone, internet, my cell. Two bankruptcy attorneys told me that we could have easily qualified for full bankruptcy. My husband has been laid off. But for moral reasons, rather than make creditors eat all of the loans, we entered debt settlement. Now in our fifties, we have started new. No longer with Bank of Amevil, our new credit life with this bank has been honorable. When we opened the account, they offered overdraft protection, which we have used. We make heroic efforts to pay it back. We’d like for our banking history with this bank to based on our clean, timely payments. We constantly sweat the threat of overdrafts, just making it by pennies. This is a long, slow, painful, extremely stressful process, but we are trying and doing moral best. However, this new bank found out about our settlements with past creditors, which have nothing to do with the new history we have established, like paying large amounts at a time back for the use of the overdraft protection. With no warning, this bank lowered our overdraft protection and set into motion the likelihood of bounced checks, this time with the creditors with whom we have agreed to settle. Aside from the unethical dilemma in which this bank created for us, the new life of showing prompt payments and good faith, and now future creditors and those who check credit, potential employers, housing, it has been sorely damaged, again. This unethical treatment of banks preying on those of us who are trying to rebound from losing everything and reestablish our lives must stop immediately. When I got my undergraduate degree, I read of one theory as to why the ancient Roman Empire fell: their greed. Corporate greed has long been out of control. Corrupt CEO’s and lobbyists are not only not penalized, they are somehow tremendously rewarded. But morality is not. Morality does not enter into their business practice with customers, though many customers, such as ourselves, use morality to guide our dealings with others, even businesses. It is a shameful comment on our society that the business world has sentenced us to a legacy of immoral, abusive people. The greedy have made it clear that money is the only language to which they will respond. Withdrawing it is the only pressure that may force them to stop these perpetrators. Good heavens, Chase charges monthly fees to just check your balance. To those of you who, like us, have already lost everything, I wish you luck in your struggle to s more

Resolved Question: I wrote this in school today..?

There's nothing cute about dung, and I always pretended to be the queen and kind of dung because I though people would leave me alone. My phantasmagoria. The turmoil that spiraled into a wormhole sucking up water worms, organisms, and fragments, chances, and soft bellies of light and life detached from my loins and joined thousand terror mongers to die fvcking like deranged gay octopuses into my sinking drunken boat. The care of outside people, the tedious care of teachers I knew were unimportant, but still quite desirable. I had to fix my detachment or kill myself fashionably. I was to begin seeing people as exhibitions, organisms, and scum rather then examples of life. Existence was a terrible thing and anyone who ever existed only did so to agitate me. I saw beauty as nothing but the horror spite opposite of art, art being the faith and attraction that I said to play but played rapid and disillusioned. Reflecting back, I am much more sarcastic. Yazzi, doll, you're perfection in a cell. I do not see either above or beneath you. THE TRAIN, PLANE, RAIN, BOATS, FLOATS, GOATS, HORSES, ASSES, PIGS, FOX, BEAST, BREAST, TAPS ON WOOD, ROBIN HOOD, WALRUS TUSK, PICK UP TRUCK, POLAR BEAR, TOKEN FARE. I AM RADER VADER, VAGABOND FAN. TEACHER RAZOR, BOOKS WITH MICRO-SCRIPT. YOU'RE LUSTTTTTTT, I TRUSTTTTTT, I MUSTTTTTTTT, DISGUST. TEAR A LIP MOVING, BLACK PINCLE TO TRACE FINE LINES OF SICKLY UNEARTHED SKELETON. THE GAP DRIPS LIQUIDATED PEARLS AND BONE DUST FROM CRACKS IN YOUR MUSK. Resolved Question: Can somebody help me to interpret my dream?

I was in a sort of indoor forest, traveling with a group of people. I don't remember who they were, or if they were significant. The forest looked as if it had recently been damaged, trees were burnt, and I could see the glass ceiling in the gaps where no foliage grew. We were looking for trees that didn't have any damage to them, so we decided that we'd try checking the forest that was located above the one we were in. Everybody in the group got onto an elevator. It was huge, the size of a large room complete with school cafeteria style tables. I suggested that we not press the second or third floor levels, because I thought that the bottom forest had trees that were at least three stories tall, and there wouldn't be enough room for the other tress to grow. Everybody agreed, and somebody in the group pressed a button that was labeled "To get from east to west". The elevator started going up very quickly, and my knees went shaky, and I had to sit at one of the tables. I could see through the clear glass of the elevator walls, and it reminded me of the scene from Willy Wonka and the Chocolate factory, where the the glass elevator was ejected into the sky. When we didn't stop where I thought we would, but kept going, I got very scared, and held onto the table for my life. It finally stopped at the very top floor, and I got out. The top floor was some sort of corporate office building, and there were lots of people milling about. Somebody was giving me a tour, telling me that all the people who worked there also lived there and never left. They had places to sleep and exerciserooms. For some reason I recall seeing a mattress under a desk or a small table and thinking there were probably lots of places to hide here. more

Resolved Question: Is there a 'catch' to factory outlet price and a dept. store price for some 'low-end' furniture?

I was looking into buying some very basic, inexpensive pieces that could help create a canopy bed that would fit my box spring & mattress. I found a very basic set that was wrought iron. 3 stores were selling it for $250-$325. An outlet factory is selling what looks like the exact same thing (in the photos, anyway) for about $99. Now, I know this is all pretty cheap stuff, and I'm guessing wrought iron is wrought iron. Could there be any real qualitative difference between the items, given they are just a few pre-fab produced cheaply made pieces: other canopy bed sets I saw are all wood and cost a couple of thousand each. Could there be a difference between the $99 & the $250-$300? To tell the truth, the dept. store stuff looked pretty junky, so if I'm going to buy cheap stuff, I may as well pay a cheap price. Anything I'm not considering? Delivery price is the same. more

Resolved Question: mattress liquidators- are these "factory sealed" mattresses ok?

I vaguely remember hearing something negative about these dealers. Are these mattresses used? Can they have bedbugs? more

Resolved Question: Has anyone used the Babywise method of scheduling a baby?

Ok, my baby is 10 weeks old and I of course waited until he was several weeks old to realize that the schedule he had in the hospital is gone. If you aren't familiar, Babywise recommends feeding, playing, and then sleeping all in that order. My son wants to feed, play, feed and then sleep. I have been trying to get him on a schedule for a few weeks now. We were first set back because we breastfeed and I have a fast, strong flow and it would choke and gag him. So, this made the feeding time very difficult and when he would go to sleep I was fine with that. Feeding times also took a lot longer than they should due to the gassiness that we had to get out of him. We have pretty much taken care of this situation. Now my problem is how do I get him to go to sleep without wanting to eat again? He likes to comfort suck, 99% of the time he is not hungry again yet he just wants to eat. I know he needs to sleep, but I can't figure out how to make him realize that he is tired without putting him in the swing until he is drowsy and then lay him down. Even then I put him down he tries to suck the mattress and makes this huge wet spot where he is laying and then of course he doesn't want to sleep on a wet spot. Yes, he sleeps on his stomach. I know it's not recommended, but on his back he would only sleep for 30 minute stretches and would not allow swaddling. So, any advice? I have a had a huge time trying to get this schedule thing done, I am trying not to be a milk factory where he can come nurse just whenever he wants like most nursing mothers recommend. Oh and also what time do you put your baby down to sleep? Do you nurse just before you put them down? Thanks for any advice! Ok for those that want to critizice my choice of wanting to put my baby on a schedule please just keep your comments to your self. I will be going back to work and he will have to go to part time child care and will need to be on a schedule. I do not see anything wrong with feeding, playing, and then sleeping. This worked great with my first son, but that was 5 years ago and I have forgotten all of that. He is not dehydrated, I know how to tell the difference between wanting to suckle and eating. I had already read all the negative reviews as well as the positive before I read the ENTIRE book as well. Thank you.Another question. For all the mom's that breastfeed and are against doing a schedule. Does your baby want to only snack and eat every hour? Or if your lucky 2? This is probably the main reason why I am trying to get him to eat fuller so that he will be able to last longer. Also, I just used Babywise as an example since they do the eat, play and then sleep. I am not at all rigid on the times. I am just trying to space it out more to prevent myself from exhaustion and to allow me to be useful for the rest of my family not just my baby. I'm sorry if some of you think I am an awful mom and uncaring, but feeding every hour is horribly exhausting. more

Resolved Question: Can I press charges???

I was sky diving for the first time in my life. I had a good time even though it was intense and frightening, but when I reached for the cord to deploy the chute it was not there and the instructor yelled "April Fools!" I went for the reserve and the same thing happened with the"April Fools" replaced by laughter and the instructor pulling his chute. Luckily there was a mattress factory below me or I would have had some pretty bad bruises. The guy was funny and all, but I quit my job and want some extra money. This was about 7 years ago so can I sue him for moolah and what not? more

Resolved Question: Is it possible to exchange a mattress you just bought 2 weeks ago for a bigger one?

I bought a queen size mattress from The Original Mattress Factory about 2 weeks ago. The mattress is very comfortable, however, i would prefer a King size. Do you think they will take it back so i can upgrade to a larger size? Is there anyone out there who has done this before and was successful? more

Resolved Question: Polyurethane foam pillow- - - TOXIC???

I just bought a 100% polyurethane foam pillow! I am so excited to use it, it feels so comfy! Ironically, tonight I saw a news report- this man worked in a mattress factory and shed light on toxicity of chemicals on mattresses--it was like boric acid, for fire retardant. So, I go get my mail tonight and in Health magazine, there is a huge write up on toxicity in our homes. One item listed is "Your Bed", and it goes to discuss the same findings. I couldn't really decipher from the article what they were saying about polyurethane, but it doesn't sound good. I went and checked my new pillow---100% polyurethane foam!!! It DOES reek of "new smell", and yes, it smells sorta like bugspray! I can't believe it! Does anyone know about the stuff or have any links where I can find info??? more

Resolved Question: Cleaning play yard?

We just bought a new play yard and it appears as if nothing on it is machine washable. I wiped it down with a damp cloth and put a play yard sheet on the mattress. It still has such a heavy factory smell to it, and I'm a little cautious of new materials, with all the lead scares and such. I'm not sure what else I could do. Do you think it will be fine after it airs out? more

Resolved Question: Taking a year off after graduation before college?

I have been considering taking next year off after I graduate high school before applying to colleges. My parents are not for this at all, and I know everyone says that I'll never make it back to school or I'll become lazy, but my reasoning is this.. I want to go for BFA, and just feel like I would have a better chance getting into colleges if my portfolio was built up more. I only decided in my junior year that I wanted to go to school for art, so I don't have much. I was thinking about just taking art classes around my area (Pittsburgh) and continuing my volunteer work at The Mattress Factory Art Museum along with other volunteer work on my time off. any suggestions? more

Resolved Question: Who is responsible for a mattress defect under warranty, the factory or the reatailer.?

I work at a mattress store and a customer bought a bed from us and after a year said it was bad I went to look at it. It was a little bad, well the company king koil wouldn't take care of it and now the customer is suing us(the retailer) and he won the case so he gets to keep the bed mattress and boxspring and the frame and he also gets his full money back sales tax and all. I feel this isn't fair. after two yrs. more

Resolved Question: So I went fishing the other day and saw the mattress salesman.................................................

and he tells me there has been a factory recall due to a certain chemical present that has been known to inhibit the proper functioning of the female libido. So I'm thinking, no wonder I've been getting some peace and quiet at night here lately?!. Resolved Question: what are the biggest sources of environmental pollution?

going organic is EXPENSIVE! you start with a few groceries, then cleaning products, add on organic coton baby diapers, natural mattresses, chemical-free paints for the home, shoes that are chemical-free and artisanally made.... etc. etc. to be truly consistant in every area is impossible... so i'd like to know what should be my priorities?? what percentage of pollution actually comes from the "little guy" vs. the big factories i have no control over. part of the effort is health motivated, but otherwise...does all the effort and expense really make a difference in the long run? more

Resolved Question: Should I get a Bragada Matress?

I need a new mattress, and I'm interested in getting one made of memory foam. I would get a Tempur-Pedic except that they're on the...erm....rather expensive side. I found Bragada's website and have looked through their products, and I'm thinking of getting the Vienna mattress. I have a slight concern with their lack of having a return policy, and since the mattresses come directly from the factory, there is no way to test them out. I was wondering what anyone who either has one or knows someone who has one thinks of Bragada mattresses (if you have [heard of] the Vienna, or ones similar to it (if they have edge-support preferably) I would especially like to hear everything you know about it). I'm hoping that if I get one it will be a worthwhile investment, so the more details you can provide the better. Here's the link to the Vienna Mattress: http://www.bragada.com/product.php?ver=0&id=1&fid=1 more
