Hi, I'm expecting my parents to come visit in a month. They are in upper 60s. We have a spare room, but do not want to use that as permanent guest room with a king sized bed or two twin beds. What would be a good temporary set up for my parents to sleep comfortably? Inflatable beds? Fold out beds? Futons? What doesn't take up much space but is comfortable? I'm 15 and my mom and dad have recently been treating me like I'm a little kid again and I had more freedom before. I haven't been doing anything wrong and I've actually started listening to what they say and doing all my chores plus more to help them out since they work and all. I don't argue with them or yell if I don't get my way or anything, but for some reason they don't care what i think and don't listen to what I have to say. We got rid of my bed a while back and I was using my brothers old bunk bed (which only has the top bunk). All of us wanted to get rid of it so when we did I slept on the couch for awhile. We were all planning to get me a new bed but then I started looking online and found this sofa bed that I liked instead. I told them I was willing to pay for it and they said that there friends said futons were uncomfortable (I kept calling it a futon so they thought that's what I meant) but then I said that this one was different. They said we would all talk about it another time, but then a few days later my dad woke me up and said that I was getting a bed and I said that I thought we were all going to talk about it. But he interrupted and yelled at me that he didn't "Give a s*** what I wanted" and that he was the parent. Yes I know he IS the parent but he didn't have to yell at me and I think I'm old enough to at least have a say in what I get. I didn't bother arguing with him because I knew it would just cause trouble. Not only did they do that but I don't even have a place to feel safe or relax anymore, nothing in there reflects my personality. My walls are pink and green my furniture as faded butterflies and my room is used for storage suddenly because my brother wanted a the garage to put his tools and motorcycles and all his crap so they put the extra bed in my room and there are boxes and my room was small to begin with, and my brother has a master bedroom with a walk in closet and bathroom when I have a small dinky closet and I have to use the bathroom that my brother's friends use and my brother because for some dang reason they can't hang out in my brothers living room (yes, we have a second living room but now it's his) they have to hang out in the family's. And my brother didn't want his soccer table anymore so now it's in his room and I can just guarantee that him and his friends will want to use it. My parents have been really rude to me and if I ever have a question I'll start to ask and then someone will interrupt. I'm tired of it because I don't treat them bad, I'm not a brat, I do what I'm told and suddenly they don't seem to care about me or my needs. Did they realize I'm growing up or something and they didn't want me too so they started treating me like I'm still a baby? They won't even let me get a job and I need one. Idk anymore...... I know that I shouldn't want to grow up so fast but I really wish I was 18 that way I could go off to college get a studio apartment and a job. It may be hard but at least I'll have a place to feel at home in because I'm so lost right now. This question involves a Male Cat, Domestic Long Hair, with a history of idiopathic Chylothorax and breathing difficulties presenting roughly around September-October 2009. Leo went through numerous chest taps, one of which caused pneumothorax, and he eventually developed fibrosing pleuritis. Emergency surgery was neccesary, chest tubes were implanted, and Leo was in the ICU for roughly 1 week. During his time in ICU he showed no signs of improvement, and there was continuous air leakage during his stay, with minimal fluid effusion. Discharged on April 3, Leo was sent home with chest tubes in place. It was recommended we consult with our normal vet, who stated it is best to keep Leo in a comfortable setting and to keep a very close eye on his vitals, etc. The only times aspiration/drainage was necessary was on the car ride home due to air accumulation, no fluid, the air was continous and aspiration was stopped after roughly 20 full 12 cc syringes were filled with little or no signs of negative pressure on the left and right sides of his chest (he had two chest tubes)..I kept charts of his breathing on the hour every hour for the first few days at home, and then kicked it back to every 4 hours once it was clear his breathing was stable (30-40 breaths per minute). One more tap was performed at home, days later due to a breathing scare where it suddenly rose to 60 bpm, and only 5 full syringes (roughly 60 cc of air) was collected from the right sided tube. The left sided tube provided negative pressure immediately and no further aspiration was performed. Aspiration was always performed in sterile environment with clean materials, and gauze and tubes were routinely checked for correct placement. Under the recommendation of the ICU doctors, I bought an over the counter medicine known as Acetylcysteine from GNC. I was unable to pick this up until Leo had been home for a week, and showing significant improvement, breathing generally 36 breaths per minute, sapping up all the attention, rubbing on everything, scratching his scratch pad, nothing too rigorous as we wouldn't allow it. He also began eating much more food which was a problem in ICU, and we syringe fed him baby food as well - he was severely emaciated from the ICU, they were unable to get him to eat...probably due to anxiety.) Overall he seemed very happy up until this point. We then begin administering Acetylcysteine, as well as his Rutin (prescribed from initial chylothorax diagnosis), as specifically requested by our ICU doctor. The dosage was 1 600 mg capsule every 8 hours. After about 4 days of this routine, Leo began acting differently, and breathing increased. We prepared to draw air from his chest, only to find what appeared to be a milky/golden fluid draining from the right side of his chest. We pulled 60 cc total from the right side of the chest, and ceased when negative pressure was obtained. The left side continued to present negative pressure immediately upon trying to drain anything, so we left it alone. This seemed to slightly alleviate his problem but his breaths were still roughly 50 per minute. So we decided to drain a bit more, and pulled roughly 48 cc more from the right side of his chest, and a minimal amount from the left. Leo's behavior did not change, but his breathing returned to normal....His behavior was very reclusive, he hid under beds, futons, whatever he could find. Occasionally coming out to eat, drink, use the littler box. He did a lot of sleeping. 1 day passed with nothing to report, breathing rate was normal, his personality perked up at times here and there. After 1 day passed, i noticed what looked to be blood in the curves of his drainage tubes (where we curl them to secure them under the mesh netting)... It was streaked throughout the tubes curve which was mostly filled with golden, milky fluid. I decided not to do anything but to keep an eye on him, and his breathing remained normal all day. I decided to coax him from under the bed with food, and got him up on the bed to rest. This is when I noticed his breathing was slightly labored, although still around 30 bpm, and his mouth was opening. We did a tap, but negative pressure was reached after about 6-8 cc of fluid was drained from the right side, and about the same from the left. At this point I suspected something was terribly wrong because his breathing only became worse after this. We did one more tap because the ICU doctor over the phone said that sometimes the tubes can become clogged and/or grown over due to inflammatory response. I was able to draw a bit more fluid but it was more of a pink/milky color, unlike the previous days, although I had seen this fluid initially drawn from his chest when being shown how to perform the procedure at home. This made his breathing MUCH worse, to the point of gasping for air and going into what looked like shock to me (wide open eyes, very intense look of fear, almost almost as if he was already dead)... We called around our town for 24 hour emergency care, were turned away by the on call vet at our normal clinic who only offered to euthanize even though it was made clear that a reevaluation of tube placement should be done, as well as placement in oxygen cage - and also turned away by every other vet in town because we were not "established clients". After hours of trying to find help, our only option was to drive 3 hours to the original hospital. We had to stop at a different clinic in OK due to fear Leo would not make it, and as we pulled in to the clinic's parking lot, I looked down and my baby had gone with Jesus. My question really is two different things - Could the acetylcysteine have played a role in the fluid coming back so suddenly and rapidly, and also having blood in it? Could my chest taps using his implanted tubes and gentle suction have caused his death? I need peace of mind as to what happened. Thanks. I slept on a futon while preggo with one of my kids, and it was heavenly. I slept so well and had no aches and pains, so I want one again. My boyfriend says that memory foam mattresses are more comfortable though. I would really love some advice, tips, info anything...Next fall me, my partner, and my son (who will be 2.5 at that time) are moving to Japan. I'll be assistant teaching. We don't know where we will be living or how big our apartment will be. We are planning on selling my car before we leave and using that as our "getting started money" (it will be between $1000-2000) to buy futons and whatever we need when we get there. Of course we will be taking all our own clothes (I know Japanese clothes run small), kitchen supplies, toys for toddler, etc. We can't really afford to bring everything we own over there of course, most of our stuff will stay in the US in storage. Can anyone give me advice about bringing a toddler over there? I ordered a bunch of Shimajiro videos for him to watch, but they haven't arrived yet. Also, in the US there are chain thrift stores like goodwill etc. where secondhand merchandise can be bought very cheaply. Does Japan have an equivalent? Also, etiquette in bath houses? Any cultural info would be very appreciated. P.S. I have a minor in Japanese so at least we have that going for us, but none of us have ever been to Japan before.
