I've ordered a pocket sprung round mattress 240cm in diameter. I am being told that because it will have to be bent to fit through the door frame (196cm x 71cm), the risk of damaging the mattress is high. Is that that the manufacturer being overly cautious or is there a real risk of damage? Any other suggestions / options for a mattress that definitely wouldn't be damaged when bent? I was wondering, due to the recent crib recalls and everything, how many of you moms wonder if the cribs were put together by the dads- and they didn't read the instructions first? Haha! Ok, I know this is a 'serious' issue and all, but I read drop-sided cribs are to blame for 32 infant deaths since 2000. Is there any reference to drop-side cribs being linked to deaths before 2000? Like even back to the 80's? If so, how many babies died due to problems with drop sides? I don't think it is due to the fact that the sides drop down, I think it's the cheaper parts used to save the manufacturer some money. I currently own a Storkcraft crib that was on the last recall list. I have not gotten the parts to permanetly secure the dropside in place because 1. My crib is in excellent shape and there has been no visible wear on the parts in question (which is the reason for the recall- worn plastic tracks) and 2. I prefer the side down anyways so I can get my baby out! I mean, have you ever tried getting your baby out of the crib while the mattress is on the lowest setting and the railing is completely up? It's tough! So mom, are you paranoid about recalled baby products? How do you react if one of your things is on the recall list? Am I the only one who checks out the item and decides mine is ok and doesn't need replacing or fixed? Thanks! :)By the way, this is our second child using the crib!JustMe, I understand your view, but yes, I actually DO check it every day! However, I keep the side down, so it has no place to fall, and no way of comming undone in that position. It [the problem] only applies when the side is up and locked in place. moreResolved Question: What manufacturer makes a good mattress that holds up through the years?
I've been reading bad comments on the Web about Sealy, Serta, and some others, and I was wondering, has anyone any opinions on what mattress to get, in a medium-priced range? moreResolved Question: I bought what I thought were new sheets from K-Mart. but were infested with Dust Mites/Fleas?
The next day before using them, I washed them in warm water according to manufacturers instructions. No security tag was on them and the size label was wrong. When I took the set out of the dryer, there was a lot of "fluff" lining the dryer. The bottom sheet did not fit, but I decided to use the top sheet. When I "aired" it above the bed I saw lots of "fiber" like material release. I assumed it was "fluff". At bedtime it felt like the sheets had an uncomfortable "texture" and were "moving". I was attacked with bites. I stripped the bed, vacuumed the new bed pad I'd also purchased, put on my own sheets which became infected. My five year old was bitten and has a rash (he'll see the doctor tomorrow). Let me add we do not own pets of any kind due to allergies and the "airing" I did as I made up the bed covered everything with contaminated dust which I tried my best to clean! My mattress is covered in plastic (thank God) and we've got tile throughout my condo. I took the contaminated items back, but everything has become infected! What could these bugs be? Dust mites, fleas? How did this happen? What do I need to do? Help!I reported my experience to the K-Mart manager who said they'd never heard of such a thing. I was told to fill out Loss Prevention paperwork when I asked them to pay for new bedding and the trip to the doctor's office my child (who has severe asthma) has to take. What type of bug can survive an hour long wash cycle with detergent? It's 4am and my little one and I both were awakened by itching and scratching. The baby's is more severe than mine and I am very, very upset by all of this that my little one is suffering cause some lazy bum at K-Mart put what are potentially used sheets back on the sales floor! I accidentally forgot my receipts when I took the items back after speaking to the store manager. The manager had left for the day and loss prevention tried to force me to take the infected sheets back home (eventhough he refused to touch them) until I could produce the receipt! Luckily the manager on duty was reasonable and let me leave them overnight. moreResolved Question: Does anyone have the manufacturer contact info for Select Rest mattress makers? Not a question just some info for anyone who owns a stork craft crib Vancouver-based manufacturer Stork Craft is voluntarily recalling more than a million baby cribs in Canada and the United States over a potential suffocation hazard. The cribs were manufactured in Canada, China and Indonesia between May 2000 and November 2008, the company said in a release. About 494,000 of the cribs were sold in Canada and 535,000 in the U.S. in several retailers such as Wal-Mart, Kmart and J.C. Penny, as well as on several websites, including Amazon.com, Babiesrus.com, Costco.com and Walmart.com, the U.S.Consumer Product Safety Commission said in an advisory Tuesday. The crib's metal support brackets used to support the mattress and mattress board can crack and break, the advisory said. "When one or more support brackets break, the mattress can collapse and create a dangerous gap between the mattress and crib rails, in which a child can become entrapped and suffocate," it said. The CPSC said it is aware of 10 incidents in which one or more mattress support brackets broke, including one instance in which a toddler sustained bruises to his forehead. Stork Craft said it recently made a design change to heavier brackets, while replacement bracket kits are available to consumers at no charge. Consumers can call the company toll-free at (866) 361-3321 or go to www.storkcraft.com to order the free replacement kit. http://www.cbc.ca/consumer/story/2009/01/13/crib-recall.html moreVoting Question: Help with physics work pleaseeee?

Has anyone heard of this brand mattress or does anyone have one??? Are they good or bad? I feel like maybe we should have gone with a name brand mattress company or researched the brand before we bought it. I'm just afraid we may have made a mistake. Can anyone help??? moreResolved Question: SEVERE POLYESTER ALLERGY - Advice/Help please!?
My partner and i have bought a brand new SilentNight Mirapocket 2100 mattress for £400 and I am severely allergic to it. It started with puffy eyes and wheezing (i do get occasional asthma but until now hadn't used my inhaler for over a year). Emailed Silent Night and they said the makeup of the mattress is mostly Polyester.... I have never been allergic to this before. We bought an allergy mattress sheet cover and to make doubly sure, i put one of those plasticy sheets on under it too .. But now i am covered in a scarring rash (Betnovate and Hyrocortisone do not work - so worse than eczema), i am using inhaler 4 or 5 times a day, my eyes are red and puffy, scratchy, i'm constantly blocked in the nose.... I've tried every antihystamine and I have tried steroids from the Doc but i cant stay on them forever, and it sounds shallow but we saved for 6 months to get a new mattress... and the manufacturer won't take it back unless faulty.... What can i do to ease the symptoms?!! Helppp! moreResolved Question: I am looking for an UNDER BED Storage Solution?
I need to access under an Eastern King Bed and have seen "Bed Lifts" from overseas websites, but the shipping and customization for North American mattress sizes is rediculous. Are there ANY US based manufacturers of this kind of thing. www storagebed(dot)co(dot)uk is an exampleI am afraid no one understood my question. I was looking for a LIFT BED, not drawers, plastic boxes, etc. Luckily, after some searching I found a couple. I am looking to get the BOSSA Lift bed from EQ3.com Thanks to all who tried. I am posting this so that future searches might reveal the answer. I found another overseas option at bedcity.com, and yet another US option at storagebeds.com (more like "kits") and finally a brand that automates the lifting at: Happijac.com (more for RV's) moreResolved Question: Are there any manufacturers that make a larger bed than the eastern and western king size mattresses?

Who thinks that the quality of most generic moses baskets is shockingly bad!? I had one with my 1st baby from Mothercare which cost £50.00 not the most expensive one i admit but you'd imagine that it would be at least decent uality...but it was so flimsy and the mattress was awful. This time round someone gave us a hard wicker basket..much better quality than the usual sort and with a good mattress...the whole thing is bigger and better...we also made the mistake of buying another crappy basket from mothercare! I must have been hormonal but thought it would be good to carry the baby round the house in..it is SOOO bad! The handles turn inward so you risk catching baby's arm as you pick them up and the lining keeps falling into the basket...I have no receipt so I doubt they'd take it back...I think manufacturers should be stopped from selling rubbish like this.Lol..thanks for that Seaside Sweetheart... a very informative and intelligent response! The basket my friends bought us was got in France at some very nice baby boutique...I wish i could afford to shop in French baby boutiques lol... moreResolved Question: Getting credit for Simmon's mattress?
In the last 3 years, I have had two Simmons' Beautyrest mattresses develop "potholes." The first one was inspected and deemed defective and replaced by the store where I purchased it. Now the second one has been deemed defective. I'm not a giant or anything (6'1", 185 lbs). The store I got both of them from says that they will not give me my money back but will instead replace the mattress under warranty. I do not want another Simmons but that is all the store carries. They said if I want my money back I need to take it up with Simmons. Does this make any sense? Has anyone been successful getting a refund from the manufacturer for their defective mattress? The frame does have a center support and it has been checked along with the box spring for defects when they have inspected the mattresses. According to the store inspectors, everything looks fine. moreResolved Question: Last of the physics question ( hopefully ).........................?

The company states that it wasn't possible for the vendor to have any, but the vendor agrees with me that I bought it from them. I also have a receipt. Photographs taken of Liam Johns' crib by the Sacramento County Coroner's Office clearly show where it came apart. The drop rail had detached from its plastic track, creating a gap through which the 9-month-old boy slipped feet-first. Instead of falling to the floor, Liam got his head stuck between the rail and the mattress. Trapped in a hanging position, the boy asphyxiated. Liam's April 2005 death prompted an investigation by a federal watchdog agency and a family lawsuit against the crib's manufacturer, Simplicity Inc. If the crib already has the newer hardware (see attached graphic), consumers should still check the crib's drop rail to ensure it is assembled right-side up. Once the Tribune began questioning the company and the agency this month, a massive recall of Simplicity cribs followed. On Friday, the CPSC took action on 1 million cribs, including the model that the Johns family used for Liam. It is the largest recall of full-size cribs in the agency's history. In its Hidden Hazards series, the Tribune has documented how the understaffed and sluggish CPSC fails to protect children from dangers in toys and other products. The paper's examination of Simplicity's popular cribs underscores that, even in the aftermath of a child's death, the agency can fall short in its watchdog role, leaving children vulnerable to a documented hazard. Interviews and records show that the federal investigator assigned to Liam's death failed to inspect the crib in his initial inquiry and didn't track down the model or manufacturer. "We get so many cases," the investigator, Michael Ng, said in an interview this month. "Once I do a report, I send it in and that's it. I go to the next case. We could spend more time, but we are under the gun. We have to move on." Only last week, after inquiries by the Tribune, did Ng return to California to find the crib. It had first been held as evidence by sheriff's police and later was put in storage by a lawyer retained by the family. Even with the recall, it remained unclear why it took so long to address the problem. The CPSC often gets bogged down in negotiations with companies over recalls because fedx eral law limits its powers and its ability to disclose details of its investigations into dangerous products. Nancy Cowles, a child-product safety advocate and executive director of Kids In Danger, called for congressional hearings to look into the delay. "Was it because the CPSC has no power and the company was able to stall?" she asked. When first presented with the Tribune findings this month, Julie Vallese, spokeswoman for the CPSC, said the agency could not comment about Simplicity. "We have more than one investigation open, and that's why I can't answer any questions," she said. In announcing the recall Friday, the CPSC blamed a flawed crib design and hardware that allowed parents to install the drop rails upside down, which can cause the rail to detach from the frame. The agency said it was aware of seven non-fatal cases of infants being trapped and 55 other cases of drop-rail problems. It also linked the Simplicity cribs to three deaths but did not release the names of those children or the dates of the fatal accidents. One of those children was Liam Johns, records show. Another was 6-month-old Edward Millwood, who died in November 2006 in Georgia. The third was 8-month-old Royale Arceneaux, who died in February in Houston. All three children fell between the mattress and a separated drop rail. The drop rails in those deaths had been installed upside down. But the agency also found two incidents in which correctly installed drop rails failed to work properly. Ken Waldman, president of Simplicity Inc., said in an interview Friday that the company makes safe products and works closely with the CPSC to fix any problems. He would not say why the recall did not occur earlier. "This is the thing to do and that's why we decided to do it now," he said. The Aspen 3 in 1, once Simplicity's best-selling crib, accounted for the bulk of the recall. About 600,000 of those models, which are no longer made, were recalled. moreResolved Question: Why do mattress manufacturers change their mattress colours every year?
