Voting Question: Why is my Memory Foam mattress so hard?

I bought a Comfort Dreams 10-inch Memory Foam mattress (twin XL size) a few days ago, but... It's REALLY hard. It's like sleeping on a rock. I woke up incredibly sore this morning, is this supposed to happen? Is there anything I can do to make it a little softer? I'm almost ready to just bring my old 20 year old spring mattress back. Here is the mattress: http://www.overstock.com/Home-Garden/Comfort-Dreams-10-Inch-Anti-Bacterial-Allergy-Dust-Mite-Silver-Treated-Memory-Foam-Mattress-Twin-XL/4416190/product.html?rcmndsrc=2 more

Resolved Question: Where can I find a cheap platform bed for a twin xl?

I just got a new Twin XL Memory Foam Mattress, but I am having the HARDEST time trying to find a good platform bed for it. Apparently Twin XL has a very limited selection. The cheapest I could find was about $350, but i'm not paying that since the mattress itself was only $275. Just something simple to hold the mattress, it doesn't have to have storage or anything. But I also don't want just a cheap spring one either. Any help is appreciated, thanks. more

Voting Question: What do you think of this soundproof room idea?

I can get several pallets for free, and nail them together. They'd form the walls, being self-supporting. The gaps between the pallets would be filled with foam. The inside of the pallets would be layered with sheetrock. One of the walls would have a door frame with a hung door for opening/closing, possible two doors sandwiched together to create a double-door scenario. The pallets I can get for free, the doors I can get for free, the foam I can get for free. Inside, Twin mattresses, about two per wall would be attached to the walls where applicable. There's a store that cleans mattresses nearby and sells them at cheap prices. If there are any cracks/seams, I will seal them with acoustic calk, and possible if I have enough space still, fill the gaps/line the walls with Auralex acoustic foam and bass stoppers. The walls would be fairly dense at this point, and not have spent too much money. The sheetrock I could mostly find online, and the rest just buy and cut to size. Sound alright?? more

Resolved Question: A few questions about memory foam mattresses - what kind? What else do we need to buy?

I sleep curled up on my side, and he generally sleeps on his back. We plan on getting a full because our room is tiny. We're upgrading from a twin, so we don't have a box spring or bed frame. Will we need to buy a box spring to go with it? What kind of frame should we buy? more

Voting Question: Cutting Memory Foam Beds?

I have a queen size memory foam bed and I really don't have the space for it anymore. Can anyone offer any experience in cutting memory foam mattresses(NOT toppers), or point me in the right direction? Do you know if the layers of different foam are connected to each other through out the mattress? I really want to cut it to be twin size and not destroy it. Thanks.I've used this mattress for years. Resolved Question: Do I have a case for Medical Malpractice?

I was pregnant with twins at 31 weeks and had questions about the swelling I had (because when I would sit on my ankle, it was like a memory foam mattress denting when I took it off), the doctor shrugged it off as normal. Then later in the same visit, he said all my tests came back normal except for my blood test showed I had low hemoglobin counts and he didn't tell me anything more about what that meant and sent me home. 10 Days later, I had a headache where my vision went weird (I could only see 1/2 of things) and my husband had an appointment to see the doc, so I told my hubby to ask the doc if that was normal to have that sort of vision with a headache. He told him Yes and that I should lie down for a while until it passed. Later that day, I fainted and had several seizures (eclampsia) and ended up life-flighted in a coma with an emergency c-section, and in heart failure. Should I sue the doctor for negligence? Do I have a case? more

Resolved Question: Can I ditch my mattress and just use a memory foam topper or two as a mattress instead?

my bro and I have bunk beds and i sleep on the bottom so I am limited on space. I would love a full memory foam mattress but they are expensive. and adding a 3inch topper will give me less room. My question is (because a buddy told me) that i could take a king or queen topper and cut it in half and use it to sleep on.. Assuming i buy a 3-4inch topper, cut in half and stacked would make a 6-8inch layer, which would be more than my current 5inch mattress. and since we have bunk beds i had a solid 3/4inch thick peice of MDF board on the bottom. Or i could just buy two twin toppers and use them. Any thoughts or suggestions. more

Resolved Question: What is the name of this type of furniture piece?

I am currently a graduate student working on my masters degree. I share an office with 10 other graduate students. At one time on of the other students had brought a weird looking bed/couch type piece of furniture into the office that we all used to either do homework on or take naps on during all-nighters. The student who brought it graduated and took the couch/bed thing with her. She did not know what the thing was called and it is driving me crazy because I have never seen anything like it and I can't find the name of it anywhere so I can buy one of my own. Here is a description. It is a big foam rectangle, smaller than a twin bed mattress but big enough for two people to sit side by side. It was around a foot high. It didn't have any legs to it. It was just a big foam block. One side of the thing arched upward kind of like a lounge chair but the arch isn't so high that you're sitting straight up but rather like lying down with two pillows under your head. The entire thing was covered with a fuzzy brown cloth. If anyone has any idea what this is I would appreciate it greatly. This thing seems one of a kind but it was sooo comfortable and I would love to be able to find another one someday but I need to know what it is called first. It was not home made. It was bought in a furniture store. So far no ones got it. It isn't homemade, it doesn't fold, and it is not a daybed...any other guesses? more

Resolved Question: How do I tell my mom that I don't want her gift?

Now last year for my birthday, my mom got me one of those memory foam mattress topper things(because my mattress is pretty crappy) and she knew i wanted one but she got me a 2 inch one and my brother got a 3 inch one because his bed is twin so it cost less than the full one. Resolved Question: Memory Foam Mattress Topper Question?

I was just wondering how much of a difference there is in sleep comfort between a memory foam mattress topper that is 1.5" versus one that is 4". I found a 1.5" twin memory foam mattress topper at walmart for about $50 and I also found a 4" twin xl memory foam mattress topper at Walmart for about $75. Resolved Question: WEIMARANER TRAINERS: Is there a dog bed my Weimaraners WON'T tear up?

I am good trainer in every aspect but the torn dog bed. Mine are 90 pound 12 year-old dogs and they have destroyed every bed I have ever provided in spite of how much attention they receive. I cannot sleep i the same room with them and I have not slept with them since they were puppies and found that I am allergic to them and they snore. I take an allergy pill if the symptoms are too severe during the day and I keep them clean to limit their allergic qualities. Recently they went three weeks without tearing up the King sized quilted cotton bed comforter that I put on the floor for them. They are inside dogs with a dog door to go to the backyard whenever they want. They have had the outdoor kind of beds with chips in them, the cloth covered foam beds and even a twin sized mattress once. I love these two dogs and will keep them no matter what they do, but it is very expensive to protect their bones from the hard floors. When they went without a bed for a few months in the summer months they developed big callouses and scrape marks on their legs and I can't have that happen again. I can't even estimate how expensive it has been to keep these dogs comfortable. Does anyone out there have chronic dogbed destroyers that foud a soft bed solution that the dogs do NOT destroy? Even the veterinarians we have seen have run out of ideas. When they eventually die of old age I obviously will not get a large breed dog again.P.S. Their health is very good. The vet said their blood panels from their yearly exams show their health is better than most dogs half their age. They tore up a pile of towels too but not until they had them for a week. They are two 90 pound dogs, so there must be a lot of fabric between them and the hard floor to protect their joins and give some cushioning. This is a tough problem to solve, isn't it?"to protect their..." JOINTS [ sorry--Type-O] more

Resolved Question: Acoustic foam, mattress pads?

I'd like to make my room into a small recording studio, mainly for Acoustic guitar and soft at times loud vocals.. is it possible? I live on a 2nd story house with carpeted flooring, a huge closet with a sliding door, built in room cabinets?, and a window the size of about 5x8. The room is about 11x11 with my everyday essentials such as a very tall desktop with my computer, bed, tv, dresser, clothes, ect.. The walls are dry wall, and the ceiling has a very spikey-rough-dry wall-ish type of texture.. I recently purchased 4x twin mattress foam pads, 1 inch thick and each the size of a twin bed. I've already placed 1 mattress pad on my door which only covers 9/10th of the door... should it cover the complete door? i also placed a mattress foam pad on my ceiling, and then i placed another mattress foam pad covering my whole window.. i will also place 1 more mattress pad i have randomly somewhere on my wall. Do I have to cover my WHOLE room with mattress pads? how about the flooring? i've heard someone say you also have to cover the floor somehow as well, as well as the ceiling? if the whole room doesn't have to be covered with mattress foam pads, how far apart does each one have to be from each other? Will it be okay if my closet took up 1/6th of my room? it has a bunch of clothes.. i can close the closet with my sliding door.. will that effect the sounds? should I place the mattress foam pad on the sliding door? what have I done wrong so far? what do i need? I'd love to buy things at a very affordable rate as i'm going to college next week so my cash is a bit strict :( will mattress foam pads work? i've read people saying they've used mattress pads, egg cartons, ect. to 'soundproof' a room. I basically want to sound proof my room. Sorry for the long post.. I'd just like to be as detailed as possible.  more

Resolved Question: How do I fix a short mattress?

Resolved Question: My crazy four year old is ruining everything in sight! Any advice?

It started with his bunk bed. I came in one morning to find him awake and peeling decals and wood peices off his bed and ripping them to peices. He had a time out. The next morning I came in and caught him in the middle of using the bed rail as a balance beam, on the top bunk! I took his bed down and left him with just the bottom bunk, which is a basic twin bed. Later, I catch him being angry about it and he ripped his mattress apart down to the bare foam. He said he did it because he was angry at me for taking his top bunk away.He has broken toys, his bedroom furniture, if I keep taking things, he will be in an empty room! He had no mattress last night. He slept on the floor in a sleeping bag. Today, we had to go drop a few hundred dollars on a new mattress and I am worried he will ruin this one. To top it off, last night, he chewed and ripped up his sleeping bag!!! Now today, I find a mark on his bed. I asked him what it was and he said he was biting the bed frame!!! (it's solid wood) What can I do to make him stop destoring everything? He giggles about time outs and he doesn't listen to anything my husband and I tell him to do or not to do. Any suggestions? What would you do? more

I have seen in past those mattress pads that come with a foam insert you place between beds and then cover that goes over the top, and some straps to hold them all together and make one larger sleeping area...but now I can't find where to get one!!! I've looked online at Kmart, Walmart, Target, Bed Bath & Beyond, Lillian VErnon (which I think is where I saw a few years back in the 1st place) , Harriet Carter, even Ebay and have not been able to find one. Does any one know where I can buy one now? more

Resolved Question: How long should I let my memory foam expand?

I just bought and received a 3" twin size Soft Sleeper memory foam mattress topper. My friend has another memory foam topper, but had problems with his because he didn't let it expand enough before using it. How long should I let it expand for to avoid doing damage to it? Is it going to grow much? The dimensions online said 76" x 37" x 3", but it's only about 68" x 30" x 2.5" right now. Also, any hints for getting that awful smell out? Should I just use some Frebreeze? more

Resolved Question: Should I get a 2" memory foam mattress topper from Serta or a 3" from Soft Sleeper?

They both come out to about the same price (about $80). Serta seems to be a more trusted brand, but the extra inch might be nice as well. I'm at college in an uncomfortable "twin extra long" (which turned out just to be a twin) and want to get better sleep. Both got pretty good reviews; which should I get? I've never had memory foam before. Should I spend an extra $60 and get a 3" Serta one? http://www.overstock.com/cgi-bin/d2.cgi?PAGE=PROFRAME&PROD_ID=1528629 Serta 3" http://www.overstock.com/cgi-bin/d2.cgi?PAGE=PROFRAME&PROD_ID=1080221 Serta 2" http://www.amazon.com/FREE-SHIPPING-Sleeper-Mattress-Elastic/dp/B000GDZ056/sr=8-1/qid=1159292762/ref=pd_bbs_1/104-5997046-9487158?ie=UTF8&s=hpc Soft Sleeper 3" http://www.amazon.com/FREE-SHIPPING-Sleeper-Mattress-Elastic/dp/B000H5HUNS/sr=8-11/qid=1159292806/ref=sr_1_11/104-5997046-9487158?ie=UTF8&s=hpc Soft Sleeper 4"I've checked at Walmart and Target and the such and the ones I've found all seem to be 1". My friend got the 1" from Target for $20 and it helps a bit, but I'd rather get a thicker one. more
