Resolved Question: Short Story~Prison Break~ Constructive Critisism....:)?

I wrote this story to enter in a short story contest...I want constructive critism NOT insults so be polite please :) PRISON BREAK Jess slid out of his bunk bed in the dead of night, praying to whatever God might be watching over him that the springs didn’t squeal. They didn’t. Exhaling heavily, Jess knelt down beside his mattress and stuck his hand deep into a thin slit in the side of the bed. He rummaged around for a moment and then, finding what he was looking for, retracted his arm. In his hand sat a rusty, brass key. Jess stared at the key, wishing he could simply forget the obscenities he had had to go through in order to get hold of it. The man who had gotten it for him had described it as a skeleton key. It was supposed to open every door in the prison compound, and tonight it would be his ticket to freedom. Jess crept up to the iron bars that caged him inside his cell. Heart in his mouth, Jess reached through the bars and stuck the skeleton key into the lock turned it. A muffled click echoed out into the cellblock, and Jess cringed. After it became apparent that no one was coming to drag him down to the isolation ward for attempted escape, Jess removed the key from the lock and began to think about what he had to do next. He had planned it all out in the weeks prior to this day, of course, but now that it was truly in action he found he had trouble remembering just what to do. Jess knew perfectly well that in order to get outside of his cell, he needed to make a lot of noise. The cell doors hadn’t been oiled in God knew how many years, and they were sure to make a racket. Jess also knew he had to account for the convicted with sleeping problems. There were sure to be a few late night insomniacs up and about, and Jess had no doubt that they would call him out if they caught wind of his attempted escape. It was a dog eat dog world out there. With the floor plan of his cellblock imprinted in his mind, Jess leaned against the heavy cell door and pushed it open, biting his lip as it rumbled along the track. “Who the hell is that?” someone called from across the cellblock. Jess remained silent, quietly sliding through the narrow gap in the bars. He didn’t bother closing the door behind him, knowing that it wouldn’t matter either way. If he escaped, he would no longer have to worry about such troubles. If he was caught, well, he figured he’d be spending long enough in the isolation ward to forget about the door he’d left half-open. Sprinting down the raised catwalk, Jess was glad he’d thought to remove his shoes prior to the escape attempt. The catwalk was made of thin steel that would definitely give away his presence to the others. Jess reached the stairs and descended slowly, knowing that he had plenty of time until dawn reached the compound. When he reached the bottom, Jess made headway for the lone door across the room that was the only thing separating him from the crisp night air, and with it, freedom. Then, the unthinkable happened. The steel-plated door not ten feet away began to open. Jess stopped stock-still, frozen to the spot like a deer in the headlights. He knew the guards sometimes did surprise rounds at night, to try and catch people in less than desirable situations. Midnight was a popular time for prisoners with crack habits to smoke up unnoticed. Finally, a light clicked on in Jess’ brain and he backed up in a hurry, tucking his body tightly beneath the metal staircase he had only just descended. It wasn’t much of a hiding spot, but it was the best he could come up with on such short notice. On the plus side, none of the convicted could see him from their cells, so he wouldn’t be caught that way. Jess held his breath as the lights flickered to life, listening for the telltale sound of boots on concrete. He figured he was due for one hell of a headache if the guards decided to head up to the top row of cells, but if that was the price to pay for freedom, so be it. “Surprise!” a man yelled from the open door, “Cell check!” Jess’ heart sunk; he recognized the man’s voice. It was the guard captain, Sebastian Whiting. He was notoriously known for making very thorough searches. The trio of guards that had entered the cell block approached the staircase, and Jess came close to moaning in anticipation. It would have been the end of his escape attempt, and he was glad he’d caught it in time. The guards ascended the stairs, and as their boots clanged against the thin sheet metal, it sent heavy ringing vibrations down into Jess’ head. Jess winced in pain, but kept his mouth clamped shut. As the trio reached the second floor, Jess let out a quiet sigh of relief. Then, he froze; the guards would surely notice his empty cell. Not only that, he had left the door wide open, a dead giveaway for anyone who happened to wander down that way. Jess decided that if he was going to ma more

Resolved Question: Pregnant and feeling really down in the dumps, want my partner to do more, but tired of asking...?

My hubby and i moved in together in october 2008, found out i was pregnant april 2009 and married may 2009...i'm now in the 3rd trimester of pregnancy and its been an awful one, iv already got a 5 year old son from a previous relationship, iv had tonsilitis, and a long bout of food poisoning which i just recently got over, to be honest im shattered, i'm doing the housework everyday, taking my son to school and back which takes me 2 hours to walk altogether, and on top of that iv made the cot, decorated the bedroom and sitting room, sanded a dining table and moved quite alot of furniture around and done the weekly shop alone. My partner works in London his alarm goes off at 4am but he never gets up for it he was late again this morning and hes in a new job, he took four days off work last week compalining of a bad ankle even though he walked around on it for those four days he had off, i still need to get floor laid and some stuff put into storage from the hallway yet its been months since i asked and its still not done, to be honest i dont think he cares...iv bought everything for the baby even though we're married, cot, clothes, stroller.. When we go out people we know touch my tummy and ask how i am and how baby is, my partner dosent even go near my tummy, and when i tell him the babys moving hes normally rolled over given a quick is she and gone to sleep... I dont know what to do...iv tryed to get him involved but hes just not interested...i even went to a yoga class in London the other evening when he was off with his bad ankle, and got stuck in surrey having to get a taxi i didnt get in til nearly midnight, anything could have happened to me and when i walked in he was fast asleep not even one bit worried where i was, he didnt even notice id got in the bed, when i got up in the morning to get my son out of bed he'd been put into bed with underpants and a tshirt, no pyjamas and my son had a cold at the time... I'm so unhappy iv started crying everyday, i never cry infront of him as i dont think he'd understand why im crying....and i know crying is bad for the baby but things are that bad, i dont ask him for much and i gave him a little list of things to do before the baby comes, it would take him a day to do them yet it would probably take him a lifetime. And i know i shouldnt be lifting and moving things or painting, but if i dont do it it wont get done. I'm even starting to find it hard to wash my little boys hair bending over the bath... And i find it hard to make my sons bunk bed, asked hubby to do it, and the sheets just come away, and i ask him to hang his clothes up when he comes in from work so they dont get creased as i spend hours ironing them for him...if he had his way there would be clothes all over the house... And hes always always complaining his back is sore, hes got a cold or something along those lines. And hes always tired, always...i even sent him for blood tests but nothing came back as i was worried there was something wrong with him. Hes not even booked holiday for when the baby is due yet with work. I dont nag at him or argue with him i just ask him every now and then to do little things. But he dosent. and most of the time he just laughs things off. I'm tired and very sad...i feel like giving up more

Resolved Question: What would you do if this was your house would you do the same as my mum, or soemthing else? please tell?

and its true :)x My house was haunted. When we moved in i was 5. Nothing ever happened to me, and my dad. Just my Mum And two older brothers. Example 1- My brothers had bunk beds and they were asleep. My oldest brother woke up hearing a tapping noise on the wall, like someone was knocking. Nobody was in the bathroom everyone was in bed. My brother knocked back and hid under the bed. the knocking went right up the wall and the bathroom door was opening and slamming. My brother ran out Getting my mum. She came in heard the noise, ran and got my dad. My dad went in and it all stopped. So he went back out and it started again. So my mum dragged him in and it once again stopped. so Dad went back to bed and My Brothers decided to go camping in my mum and dads bedroom with sleeping bags. Case 2- My mum worked late at night in Makro (cant spell it) and she would come in of a night and lights would flash and the ironing board would fall over and thing come plummiting off the shelves. it did'nt really bother her in the end she got used to it. case 3 (the big one)- I was about 7 by this time and lots of different things had happened around which are to long to explain. But i was in my bedroom playing make-up (hehe) and my mum and brother came shooting up the stairs (my dad was in work) and checked i was ok. I was startled and dropped eyeshadow all over the floor. my mum explained in a rush that she heard a loud banging noise from my room and thought the wardrobe had fell on top of me. Nothing had happened, i didnt even hear the noise. So everyone thought it must of been from the attic. So when my older brother came in (the one who heard banging on the wall) we sent him into the loft to investigate. he came down saying nothing was in there. My mum was always hearing the banging from then on so she sent him back up in to the attic. Then my brother shouted down ' I have found something with a sheet on' My mum thought straight away 'dead body' My brother took the sheet of to reveal a old train set. he took the lid off and looked inside. It ,ust of been hundreds of years old!! inside a picture of a woman was there who used to live here. they took the train set and put it in the garage. all the noise stopped. case 4- Long ago a old woman lived here in the dinig room, exactly were i am now. She was in a weelchair and lived in the dining room she used to bang up with a stick to tell her husband to get her something. people belive some of the banging we hear was her, because she died in this room. Oh and long ago when my oldest brother was only little it was christmas. he was sitting under the tree opening christmas presents. and decoration which was right on the tree not hanging off came shooting across the romm and smacked him on the head! Spooky eh? when we left the woman gave us a picture of Jesus. my mum shoved it in the gass cupboard seeing as she was'nt holy. and when the woman gave her the picture she said 'here have this, you'll need it' so my mum took it out sat at my brothers bed and said a prayer askingthe goasts to leave us alone and my mum put the pic on top of the wardrobed. And surely enough all the noise's stopped..... more

Resolved Question: Can you solve this Riddle?

There was a little girl strolling along the streets in downtown. She had to throw some of her garbage away, because she was a nice girl and didn't litter. Littering was illegal, and she promised mom and dad she would never break the law. She carefully tiptoed into an alley and chucked her tin can into a dumpster. A rat ran out of the dumpster and frightened the girl. She ran out of the alley and was picked up, and she was so tired, she couldn't understand what was happening. She eventually faded into a deep sleep. She woke up later in a very uncomfortable place. There was a bunk above her, but she had no siblings. She climbed out of her bed, and went to brush her teeth. Her toothbrush was gone. Her toothpaste was gone. Her bathroom was gone! Quickly, she turned around, and sure enough, she knew she was captured. The room she was trapped in was plain, gray, and had no privacy. The windows were very strong, secured with strong iron bars. There were scratch marks on the walls, and she heard people yelling across from her room. She couldn't see anybody though, there were some poles blocking her view. ---- Where was she? What did she do to end up there? And what would you rate it in difficulty? 1-10. 1 being a piece of cake, 10 being so hard, you wet yourself. (P.S. I just made this up, so don't bother searching for the answer^^) more

Resolved Question: why do your children give so much heart ache to us parents?

my daughter hates me because I threw her friend out. My eldest is 19 nearly 20, friend same age. She has stayed with us many times, so last March my daughter asked me for bunk beds so that her friend wont have to sleep on the floor, two days later she had moved in and been here ever since. She is one moody spoiled cow. I have treated her like family. Only charged her £40 pounds week board, everything in. If we go out as a family she has been included EVERY time, and paid for, unless they have offered, ( not often) xmas birthdays treated her like family. Two days ago she put her fist up to me and the other hand had the iron in,it. I told her, that was it and to go she also told me F off?. My daughter went mad with me, say's she hates me etc.inform's me I have just chucked her girl friend out too? I kept asking if this was the case, as I wouldnt mind, funny how she thinks my other daughter shouldnt have her boyfriend stay? whats the difference? was I being unreasonable? Most of my friends said they'd not have taken her in in the first place? My parents have even treated her like another grand child? I have told my daughter she should try and see it from my view? and how hurt does she think I am now? Any advise welcome please xxx happy newy year to all too xxshe didnt get on with her parents, she's had to move back in with them now. yes she infulenced my daughetr greatly and not in a good way either. more

Resolved Question: Why does my mom love him SO much compare to me?

My brother is 10, I'm 16 and my sister is 17. me and my sister have got really small box rooms whilst my brother has got a massive room, a plasma screen tv, a sofa in his room, and a double bed (wtf at 10 i had a tiny bunk bed??) she was brought up in a very sexist family, which was extremely sexist against women so she feels that because me and my sister are females we should be treated lower than my brother. for christmas he has ALREADY gotten a bmx bike, a psp with 6 games and three playstation 3 games.. all my mom does is call me a b!t.ch?? and selfish. when ever my mom tells my brother to get off of his playstation he says "no mom ***** off" (no i'm not joking, i'm very serious, and if you think thats bad he does a lot worse) he has never ever said please or thank you in his whole life-time. his the most disrespectful horrible kid i have EVER met in my life, he has never ever done his homework before, due to my mom being sexist its ruining his grades and everything, when i was his age i even done extra home work because i was forced! the way I was treated when I was 10, gosh.. I don't even want to look back to be honest, it makes me really depressed and emotional for days on edge, literally, i mean i was treated like i was NOTHING, I used to get hit with belts, hangers and everything. by the way when i said "she was brought up in a very sexist family..", i meant my mom I mean i'm 16 and my sister is 17, i'm stressing my a$$ off at college and when i come home everynight me and my sister make dinner for the family, i don't know any other kids my age cooking every night, and i also do the washing and everything, i don't know what else i can do to make my mom like me? shes so sexist that she brought me an ironing board for my bday last year? (LOL WTF???) she thinks women should be cleaning nd stuffMy brother makes me hate males so much that its making me question my sexuality =| more
